Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby A.B. » Sun Dec 19, 2004 7:18 pm

After the last two disapointing games today's result was fantastic. Kept the ball, passed well, created chances and scored. A lot of improvement from indvidual players and team wise.

Ratings

Jerzy Dudek:
-didn't have much to do and you really couldn't blame him for the goal let in and also did a fantastic job saving the rocket shot on goal from the free kick.
6.5

Stephen Finnan:
-to put it simply, Finnan is much better than Josemi at this point of time.
7

Sami Hyypia:
-big Sami hasn't been looking himself lately, gave the ball away too cheaply at times, not his best performance.
6.9

Jamie Carragher:
-superb job by Carra, has played every minute of every game and has looked solid.
7.4

John Arne Riise:
-apart from that one hell of a shot, JAR stayed a bit too quiet for my liking and did an ok job.
7

Harry Kewell:
-major credit to the Wizard of Oz, he has gotten a lot of stick but he has picked his head up and worked hard. Harry is improving in every game slowly getting back to his fearsome form.
7.5

Steven Gerrard:
-had a solid game, showed his class very impressive as always.
8.2

Xabi Alonso:
-stayed a bit quiet but made some classy passes, has a huge football brain, class player.
8.0

Luis Garcia:
-well not impressive really but then again his injury is the reason why, tried to hard to make an impact on his first day back and should had scored in the opening minutes.
7

Milan Baros:
-a hard working horse on the pitch if you will, ran up and down the pitch, won free kicks and cornerns, caused nightmares for the toon back four and to top it all off he scored his 11th goal of the season, 8th of the Premiership. Linked up very nicely with Mellor, improving as far as looking up and linking up goes.
8.5

Neil Mellor:
-didn't do much apart from the goal. He may not have the speed, the step-overs but he can score
6.7

just thought i had to point that out  :D

I have been waiting for Kewell to shine and he has been returning to form, but to rank him higher than Carragher is crazy.

The fans are being superb for Harry lately, i would bet my balls thats been a big influence on him. You could actuall see his confidence rising against Portsmouth on Tuesday as the game went on, he realised the fans appreciated his runs and some shots on goal, seems he has carried this through to today again and its good to see him getting better each game.

I think the fact he was up against his old pal Lee Bowyer spared him on today a bit, he looked up for it from the start and did a good job.

i think mellor needs to lose some pounds looks a bit overweight to me i think he will be off in the summer we are short up front and dont get me wrong he has done well but he will just not cut it in this league if cisse was still fit i think he wouldn't be here now.

I have been one of the fans who have criticised in the past but the lad has put some good performances in over the last few games but the biggest improvement has been his work rate and as long as he give 110% then the liverpool fans will cut him some slack :)

I will not blame Dudek for the goal, but when the pass was made to Kluivert, he just watched him rather than tried hard to block the shot. He probably would not have made a difference, but it would have shown a little more fire in the belly. For someone who must prove he is our #1 keeper, he seemed to give up on the ball.

As I said, he would probably have not made the save, but at least he would have shown some balls.
