Since to achieve that objective the rules of the game stipulate that you need to score more goals than the team you're playing against in order to achieve this, it might be time to consider an alternative to Kuyt. Soonish would be good, and we might even get really radical and consider playing the bloke who came off the bench tonight and scored. He does do that occasionally (I seem to remember him getting one in an FA Cup match as well recently on one of his rare appearances) and unlike Dirk, I reckon he might do it a little more often if he gets the opportunity. It's got to be worth a go surely? I'm not saying we've got to make friends or anything, just perhaps give him a go as we don't seem to have anyone else.
Dude you keep saying this every week....but how are we gonna go on a run when the team he picks is not settled ?
Instances like dropping Kuyt for one game and "hoping he becomes marco van basten during that period" and then picking him for the next game does not work. He is sh1t when we sign him..and he is sh1t now...nothing will change that. All strikers go on a run when they score. Crouch scores against luton away and gets dropped the next game. How then will he go on a scoring run ?
We can blame the owners all we want....but the manager and the players have to take the blame for the on-field display..... Rafa has to stop trying to prove that his methods work. He has to stop justifying paying 10 million for Kuyt or signing voronin or trying to fit alonso, gerrard and mash in the same team. We all know what is our strongest team....Rafa surely knows it. He has to play that team.... We might not win the next game....but we should persist with the same team (when possible)...so that the players get into the groove. Our season is so..."stop-start" this season it is unbelievable.
The players also have to do their part....I am not a fan of rafa. But I will play to my full ability whenever i am called upon even though i don't rate the manager...Gerrard has to step up. He is the captain FFS....He doesn't have to score/ or play well in every match he plays....but he should at least give 100%.... If the captain plays like he doesn't give a sh1t..how will the other players perform....
I said earlier that it would be a draw...and so am not suprised by this... Hope we "wake-up" soon. It won't be as easy as last season (where we literally strolled) to secure a top 4 position.
