The race for FOURTH

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Next two games very important. 2 wins and we go above Everton 2 points behind Arsenal. Psycologically give us a boost.

Anything less than 2 wins and fourth spot is over.

it`s not quite over yet, not mathematically anyway. the likes of spurs and everton have got some tough games coming up and there are still 36 points to play for but realistically when you consider how inconsistent we are we`d need a miracle of istanbul type proportions to finish 4th now.
it`s going to be a long summer this one

12 points is massive with the jekyl and hyde stuff we produce, 9pts was even asking a tough question of this team.
tonight we just lacked quality when it mattered. we had a lot of half chances and about 3 decent ones including the pen but whether it was nerves or anticipation or not we went limp again. we reduced ourselves back to pedestrian pace again and it made us easy to contain for the most part.
we face a fight imo to even qualify for europe next season.
henderson on the left wing just baffled me

Did you really expect us to challenge for 4th place? really? My optimism went out of the window last august when we had a poor transfer window and we weren't getting results. Our current form isn't good enough at all for a top 4 challenge. I expected results like that, why are some so surprised? If we want to challenge for a CL place we have to be consistent in our results, we've lost a 2-0 lead against Arsenal and grabbed 2 points in the last 3 games, it's just not good enough for a top 4 side. Expect more of the same till the end of the season and this summer is going to be crucial, we have to get our tansfers right or else we will be stuck in midtable mediocrity for a while

We were never going to come 4th this season and I think it would be a bit unfair to expect that of Rodgers considering how poor we have been over the last few seasons. However next season we need to be pushing for it

I also just can't see us beating the likes of Spurs, Chelsea and Everton at Anfield either.  We'll drop at least some points.

We have made progress though and with more new additions in the summer hopefully we can kick on next season.
Too many freak results like West Brom on the opening day and not being able to finish matches when we're leading has ultimately cost us.

Said it before (above)

We have too many freak results like Villa in December, Oldham, West Brom last night.  And in the big matches, we cant finish teams off.
We lack any sort of mental strength.

I hope we can address our issues this summer but I fear that we'll see the arrival of more lightweight kids when its not what we need.

if suarez f##k`s off in the summer you can close this thread for good.
rodgers is a decent young coach but looking at the players he`s brought in/been linked with (borini, signurdsson, dempsey, kalou etc) i dont have any faith that he can replace luis, not straight away anyway.
he`ll probably try and replace him with scott sinclair or someone at first.
