When I download, nobody makes profit. In real *piracy* though, some :censored: make profit using and abusing chinese or other humble people to make their profit. Profit made with film industry's work.

but u make a profit by saving money and they make a loss. this is a good debate but cant you see that what u r doing is wrong and illegal? :Oo:

The difference between buying pirated films and downloading them for free is that when you buy pirated films the money normally goes to criminals, when you donwload, there may be a reduction in revenue for the studios.

As I've said I don't steal films, but if I did I'd be a lot happier downloading than giving my money to some crime syndicate.

Piracy is due to the high costs of products that have high demand.
Those who can afford the better quality of original will buy, those who cannot will either not buy or will look for cheaper alternatives...its that simple.

I can bet my arm and leg that the windows software that you are using now is pirated  :)

I'm in the process of ordering some dvds from a legitimate supplier in hong kong they are costing me less than a third of the uk price . One film is only £2.20 and yet HMV in London want £19.99 .

Not suprising that some folk prefer to take the download option.

I cannot believe that none of all the software that you are using was got illegally....even through sharing, from a friend.

If that the case then you are very rich or you use very little software.
I see you are using a banner as a part of your signature, which means you are probably using Macromedia stusion.Did you buy that?

And i dont owe you anything coz i find it hard to believe you :)

Even using the coyote might be illegal for making your banner, for that matter.

AS a computer scientist, piracy affects me aswell. Piracy has been in computers much before than in the film industry.

WHen I'm at work, I would never allow my boss to use a pirated software. Why?? because he'd be using that software to make profit. But I wouldn't tell anything to him if he wanted it for personal use. In fact, Software companies that suffered piracy as much as the industry, do allow to experience the real thing (photoshop for instance) for 30 days before purchasing. This is because they have been facing piracy for more time than the *INDUSTRY* of films, and because they've been smarter to create alternatives like the "30 days evaluation" thingy.

There will always be people who'd still download and crack photoshop, but there are many grateful users that convinced of the evaluation period they buy the product. I apply the same philosophy to eerything else. I'm a thief? ok :)  The police will catch me then.
