maybe the sign has incredibly sharp edges that we can't see from the full face view in the image. maybe a side on view would have worked better in this case.
2. sharp, piercing, or biting: a keen wind; keen satire.
something about satire maybe? that the sign is a form of satirical observation on itself?
3. characterized by strength and distinctness of perception; extremely sensitive or responsive: keen eyes; keen ears.
it certainly has the strength to resist liverpool winds and teenage thuggery but i'm not sure how sensitive or responsive a sign can be. can't be this one then.
4. having or showing great mental penetration or acumen: keen reasoning; a keen mind.
not this one either i don't think.
5. animated by or showing strong feeling or desire: keen competition.
being a still photo its hard to tell if the sign is animated. maybe a video would have worked better. or maybe dawson is on to something with his theory that the sign has a strong desire to help. that would probably make it fairly funny.
6. intense, as feeling or desire: keen ambition; keen jealousy.
thats the same as the last one, isn't it?
7. eager; interested; enthusiastic (often fol. by about, on, etc., or an infinitive): She is really keen on going swimming.

8. Slang. great; wonderful; marvelous.
this one is a strong contender. the sign, you have to admit, is pretty fucking marvellous. fairly funny.
