Brazilian jiu jitsu - Anyone train?

I have been training for about a year and am a white belt under Ben Hall in Melbourne (a Carlson Gracie black belt) in Australia. I love the sport and have competed twice with no podium finishes yet :upside:

Might be going out on a limb here (cos I dont really know how popular it is in England) but does anyone here train? or want to train in the future? Or even heard of what it is?

i watched a documentary about it on monday funnily enough, two american martial artists go to different countries to spend a few days training in the local martial art, they both got spanked (they always have to fight someone at the end)

it was developed from one of the early forms of judo.

incidentally, i am related to the founders - the gracie family (it is also commonly known as gracie jujitsu) - distantly. there are very few gracies about as we are descended from a few escaped huguenots who legged it to scotland in the 18th century.

not a lot of people know that... :D

I saw a UFC programme on Monday about Royce Garcie (?)

He was beating people who were much heavier than him.

He beat a beast of a man who was nearly 5 stone heavier (all muscle).
He just went for them straight from the off.
They mentioned that his family invented Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

I used to. I studied Kung-Fu for several years. I was really dedicated to it, but people came and went, and my instructor decided to call it a day because of this. That really p*ssed me off, but I can understand. This was a long time ago, and the thing is that he basically taught for free. I tried other places, but the instructors were just knobs that were all show and doing it as a day job for the money. I practiced forms of Hung-Gar, and Wing-Chung as well as some Taekwondo.

As for belts, they don't matter. Belts are just a color, and not really reflective of how good you are.
