I was advised that Kuyt was likely to be upfront with Meireles behind him.

No doubt Pulis will be telling his bunch of cloggers to "get into him" at the earliest opportunity tonight. Welcome to the Premier League.

Luis Suarez can be Liverpool FC's Carlos Tevez says Reds fan who hugged Shanks

By Sean Bradbury
Feb 2 2011

Holland-based LFC fan Arthur Milton gives his take on Luis Suarez

It's a fair bet that every Red of a certain age will recognise Arthur Milton, even if they have never heard his name.

Arthur was the fan who famously ran on to the Wembley pitch and hugged retiring Liverpool manager Bill Shankly after the Reds had beaten Leeds on penalties in the 1974 Charity Shield.

Pictured above with ZZ Top beard, homemade overalls and top hat, Arthur has little recollection of flinging his arms round Shanks after several pre-match pints in The Torch pub.

But the 63-year-old has many treasured memories of a life spent following his beloved Liverpool Football Club.

Originally from Fazakerley, Arthur has lived in Holland for the last 33 years and currently resides in a small village 20 minutes away from the stadium of his adopted Dutch team PSV Eindhoven.

Although he is less bearded nowadays, his passion for the Reds burns just as brightly as it did all those years ago.

"I go to PSV because that's only up the road but I go down to Ajax and watch all of Liverpool's matches on the TV," he says.

Arthur has seen lots of Liverpool's new £22.8m recruit Luis Suarez in the Dutch league but the question on the lips of every Kopite is - will the Uruguayan be able to transfer his prolfic goalscoring record at Ajax to Anfield?

"I'm sitting on the fence at the moment," said Arthur.
"Over here we've got three main teams - FC Twente, Ajax and PSV. I call it a Mickey Mouse league. It's easier to score goals over here than in England."

"I see Suarez as an attacking midfielder. He cuts in well from the wing. He's a bit temperamental which is good - he's not a soft bugger."

According to Arthur, Suarez never saw himself playing in the Premier League - but that all changed when he witnessed another South American forward thriving in the north west.

"A while ago, I heard Suarez say he didn't think he ever wanted to come to England," explained Arthur.

"But he said when he saw Tevez play he thought - 'I could do that in England.'"

Luis Suarez and Carlos Tevez

Arthur believes a comparison can be made between the Man City striker and Liverpool's new number seven.

"You see Suarez playing for the reserves or against the top sides and he is exactly the same. He's got that same mentality as Tevez - he never gives up and he is very fast."

"It won't take him long to adapt - he will cause havoc because of his pace."

Arthur's neighbour - a die-hard Ajax fan - was happy to see Suarez leave for Liverpool.

"Everybody's made up for Suarez - he's given Ajax a hell of a lot," he explained.

"My neighbour sent me a text saying, 'Congratulations - you've got one of the best strikers in the world. Get me a Suarez shirt with number seven on the back!'"
rthur was also full of praise for Liverpool's other major transfer window signing Andy Carroll - and believes he will form a lethal partnership with Suarez.

"With the pair of them now, defences won't know where to go," he said.

"They will be good for each other - nobody will know who to mark."

Arthur with Kenny Dalglish last December

Asked about other players plying their trade in the Dutch league that Kenny Dalglish should take a look at, one name leaped out.

"I thought they might have gone for [PSV striker Ola] Toivonen.

"I asked him last week when they got knocked out of the cup on penalties.

"He said there was interest from Liverpool a couple of weeks ago but he'd heard nothing since.

"He's a really good ball player and is young."

Arthur was pleased with Liverpool's business in January, but said he would love to see Ashley Young combine with the new forward line.

"If we got Ashley Young, we could sing that old song again - 'Toshack, Heighway, Keegan, best we've ever seen!'"
