Guardian 30th May .. read on

"Nike have warned Manchester United they could pull the plug on their sponsorship deal after the club's poor showing this season. The sportswear manufacturers began a 13-year kit deal with the club in August 2002 worth up to £303m but it is reported a get-out clause will allow the company to decide next year whether to continue that agreement past the 2007-08 season...

... "Chelsea won the league this year, Arsenal won the FA Cup and Liverpool won the Champions League, so you could argue that Manchester United is only the fourth-best club in England," said Nike's vice-president of sports marketing Ian Todd.

Hehe when it rains it pours  :;):

Placed 3rd in the league
Lose the FA Cup to Arsenal
Glazer takeover
Watched their rivals bring home the most prized cup of all :D
And to top it off, now their own sponsors are rating them 4th best  :p

Live the corporate life and its only good when your on top, there no loyalty with that sort of money involved.
Couldnt have happened to a nicer team far as im concerned and will hopefully make our chances for a stronger  league challenge next season even better

i dont think man u will be too worried, they are still a massive global brand and plenty of sponsors would want to have their insignia on their kit.
i dont think the terms of any deal would be as lucrative as nike`s though. man u aren`t the dominant force of the mid 90`s and they`ve got to cut their cloth in accordance with their little fall from grace.
