To me all this is just Rafa flexing his muscles, testing the water if you want. He probably knows full well that nothing will be done about it but he is letting the powers that be know that he is not afraid to speak out, after all it hasn't done Ferguson any harm in the past. If it puts the tiniest bit of doubt in their minds over something else in the future then he has done what he wanted, the so called big two have had their own way for far to long.

As for the team to play Portsmouth, I imagine it will be the most physical test we have had so far especially in the midfield area, we need to try and pull Distin out and let Torres use his pace against Campbell ( is he fit ? ) and hopefully Djimi Traore will have his usual lapse in concentration ( a nice back heeled O.G would be good ) :)

I would like to see

Reina
Finan
Carragher
Agger
Arbeloa
Pennant
Gerrard
Mascherano
Babel
Voronin
Torres

how many will we score?
which David James will appear?
we'll skin Pompey raw
because we have no fear.

did you get all these ideas from Lord of the Rings?  :D

sounds somewhat like what the hobbits would sing...

"heyyyy we're going to Rivendell to see the elves" or whatever...  :D

From the Racing Post:

Liverpool looked an irresistable attacking force in their 6-0 success over Derby but it could be their defence that makes the difference at Fratton Park today.

Only Chelsea conceded fewer goals than Liverpool in last season's Premier League and Rafa Benitez will want his back four to be even meaner this term.

The Reds rearguard will face a much tougher test than they experienced in their previous away game – a 2-0 victory at Sunderland – but the return of Jamie Carragher has given them a great chance of keeping a fourth consecutive clean sheet.

Liverpool's strikers will behoping to carry on where they left off against Derby but they will have to work hard for their goals against a disciplined Pompey defence.
Harry Redknapp is not renowned for producing defensively solid teams but his Portsmouth side conceded just 15 goals at Fratton Park last term.

Sol Campbell was a crucial component of last season's success and his return from injury will make the hosts much tougher to beat.

Campbell was immense when Pompey secured a 0-0 draw at Anfield last November and he can play his part in another low-scoring affair today.

Recommendation
Under 2.5 goals 2pts 17-20
-----------------------------------------------------------

Is Finnan injured for today anyone?

Ok is our 1st ‘post-international-break’ and an away match for this season @ Portsmouth, ~6hrs from now. Despite all negatives we know of, let’s admit it that we have all somehow can feel it in our bones this time it will be different from the past - reasons being obvious. So let’s see which groupings or indv will predict it right:

0-1  The_Rock (change to 0-0 on 12th.sept ?)
       JamCar05

1-2   lakes10
        RichardLFC1
        Reg
        Forever_Red
        murphy0151

0-2   Emerald Red
        s@int
        Rockthekop
        mighty mo
        Ian Rush's Right foot
        lio

1-3    RedorDead

Between us and the mancs this season and last we've managed ONE point in three trips to FP, in fact we lost at a number of parks last season - Fratton, goodison, st jim jams, e wood park..........

It should be a testing game, I think we can win it but the early kick-off following two internationals may make it that bit tougher. While Rafa has a point about early kick-offs he is in danger of looking a prat, he may be able to prove we get early kick-offs more than everyone else but he can't prove any motive for it. The same way the mancs got to play before Chelsea last season, in theory an advantage as it kept increasing the gap and putting pressure on Chelsea to win.

If Torres, Gerrard and Carra all start I reckon we'll at worst draw, this is probably our second toughest league game so far behind Chelsea and marginally ahead of the villa away. I don't want to jinx the lads so I won't predict, you should see my fantasy team which I'm keeping our players out of as I'm constantly having to transfer out injured players or suspended players - Rooney, Drogba, Ronaldo and Cisse (red cards), Boyce, Bent, Carvalho................. too many to remember the lot! Needless to say there have been less games than I've had injuries or suspensions to contend with

I just read that and thought: "I predicted a 1-3 win? ??? No way, I would never have done that, we'll nick 0-1 at best!!"
So I scour the thread and sure enough I did predict 1-3...and having re-read my original post I have convinced myself again....1-3 it is....Torres, Babel and maybe Crouchy off the bench!

Only a couple of hours to go, can't wait.  Does anyone know whether Finnan is fit or not?  I'd hope so, but with Carra back a back four of Arbeloa, Carra, Agger and Riise should do the business at the back.
