What exactly did Rafa get wrong yesterday, Lakes?  Did he fail to pick up Rooney off the corner or come off the post to catch Tevez offside?  Did he fail to put that header away after Van der Sar's gaff? ???

are you telling me that you and him are the only ones not to spot that Kuyt was having such a bad game he should have been taken off before half time. The team done what was asked for them( play the way they were told to play)

and as for picking up on the marking for the goal! do we need to start talking about Rafa's ideas on marking again, Zone marking is not good for all games.

Kewell off Babel on 65mins ?????

should have been Kuyt off,  Babel or Crouch on

Riise was having a bad game and should have come off at 60 mins not 80 mins.

sorry Rafa got it wrong.

Serious question: rafa gets £30m to spend, on the proviso that he sells Riise and Carson to Villa for £13m (Carson seems to be heading off for 9-10m of that) and Sissoko for £6m, leaving the Yanks a net outlay of around £10m, not huge for January.

Where is that £30m well spent? Where are the number 10s, the playmakers, the world class wingers looking for a route out of a top club? There's no point just spunking millions mid-season on more make-dos, like Pennant, who will only come in and upset things even more. If there is serious talent out there, fine, but few world-class signings are made in the January window - Evra and Vidic were smart last year, mind.

My first suggestion woud be Carvalho. Wants out of Chelsea, top top defender and a bit of a cnut, and we could do with one or two of those.

then Quaresma. Otherwise, get the best out of what we've got.

sorry Rafa got it wrong.

Lakes, it was pretty much the best team that could have been fielded--a team that had momentum and belief after trouncing Marseille.  Kuyt and Riise always get singled out for criticism but Riise was actually decent yesterday and Kuyt was, well, Kuyt.  Torres missed a sitter and then was anonymous for most of the game but no one's criticizing him.  Benayoun was one of the poorest players on the pitch and was partially responsible for the goal yet he escapes criticism.  And, Rafa, despite putting out a strong team and making sound substitutions gets it in the neck again.  Typical.

And zonal marking works.  It's worked for three years now and the stats will bear that out.  One goal off of a mistake doesn't mean the system is flawed and it sure doesn't mean the manager got it wrong. :no

quaresma is one of the most overrated players in europe. i wasn't impressed with him at anfield at all. reminded me of ronaldo but with no end product. his set pieces were abysmal aswell.

Because we had limited options.  But, in your rush to blame Rafa, you're missing the point.  We fielded virtually our best possible team yesterday--a team that had done the business with style and panache midweek--and we lost when they capitalized on a single mistake, after we failed to capitalize on two of theirs.  Such is the way it goes in the big games--you get maybe 2 chances all game and you must take them.  We didn't but that doesn't mean the manager got it wrong.  Hell, if Torres had stuck that header away and we got our noses in front, maybe we'd be bragging about a 1-0 win today and applauding Rafa for sticking with a strong team.  Blaming Rafa is the easiest, laziest card in the doom and gloom deck.  Sometimes he deserves it (Reading) but sometimes he does not.  Yesterday was one of those times when he does not.

sorry you are right bob, we are going to walk it this year and win the prem by 10 points, as Rafa never gets it wrong.

sorry bob we will have to agree to disagree.

FFS, Lakes use your head, mate.  Rafa of course gets things wrong.  He bolloxed things up big style at Reading a week back.  Yesterday's result, however, was not his fault so why keep insisting it was?  Put another way, how would you have done things differently than Rafa yesterday and what assurances can you offer that things would have gone any differently.  Had Crouch played ahead of Kuyt would Torres have put his header away?  Would Carragher have got out to Rooney faster or Benayoun got himself off the post quicker?  Would Babel have definitely cut them to ribbons and scored a hattrick?  Bottom line, we had the right players on the pitch and we still failed to get it done.  That's football.

Hold on a minute, did the english TV say that their goal had to do with zonal marking FFS? :O

If someone said that, he should be sacked next day from tv and do not comment a game again.

I just typed a massive rant at all the Rafa antagonists and deleted it by mistake for the SECOND Time.

So all I can say is   Rafas fault? Did Rafa:

1. Miss Torres header
2. Not come off the line when Tevez scored?
3. Not close Rooney on the buildup
4. Continually give the ball away ala Kewell and Arbeola
5. Run around in circles
6. Sacrifice a new born child prematch (like Ferguson does)

He is the Manager, the buck stops with him.
he picks the team
he tells them how to play
he makes the subs
he over see their training
he picks the tactics

when theam wins he has dont his job

when we dont win he has not done his job.
