Aston Villa are looking like a tough nut to crack this season and O’Neil did very well against us with Leicester. Villa have had an extra day to prepare, but they did put out a strong side in the League Cup.

For me the biggest choice is upfront, I don’t see how Crouch can not keep his place, for me he is our number 1 striker at the moment, and every time Fowler plays he just reminds us all of his class. So what do we do? Leave Kuyt and Bellamy on bench?

I’m intrigued to see a Fowler and Kuyt partnership, I just have the feeling that it would be very productive.

i have to be honest

of course i love would for nothing more than us to go on a 10 win winning streak

but i think villa will beat us cause at the moment our top players are lacking form and confidence

and no1 scores goals against villa (one is the best they manage), they are tight, organised, make the game very dull but get results

i cant see us keeping a clean sheet with reina in this form (new name is "the bird" cause he flaps alot)

Its dosnte take a  rocket scientist to work out that this jokers no more a red than andy grey!  :rasp

Therefore

                        Reina

Finnan     Carragher     Agger     Warnock

  Gerrard      Alonso     Sissoko     Riise

                 Crouch     Fowler

Although nowadays who know who Rafa will play! After seeing the highlights from last night I think its clear that Riise and Agger will start. I think Fowler deserves a chance to start a home game.

I like that selection Southcoast. :buttrock

I try...

Agree to a point

I would switch Momo & Alonso

Momo's a better defensive MF and Alonso has the edge in the attacking  role

and I would start Kuyt with Robbie

According to BBC these players are unavailable:

Jerzy Dudek
Harry Kewell
Mark Gonzalez
Fabio Aurelio
Craig Bellamy
Dirk Kuyt

So I would go:

                   Reina

Finnan  Carragher  Agger  Warnock

Gerrard   Alonso   Sissoko   Riise

            Crouch    Fowler

Subs

Garcia
Pennant
Zenden
Hyypia
Martin

Is Kuyt definately out? I heard he was doubtful to start but could play some part.

I think he was described as “unlikely to feature”

Villa are playing good football under O'Neill, haven't lost yet (only undefeated team in the league). I'm not all that confident that we are going to be the team to put their run to an end tbh. The lads shoudl be up for it cos we really need to win, but they should've have been up for it last weekend and we layed down and died.

I can't see us losing, and hope we can sneak a 1-0 or 2-1 but I think it may be a frustrating 1-1 draw unfortunatley. Will happily be proven wrong though.  C'mon Reds!

Looking for a convincing win in front of a deafening Anfield crowd, which will hopefully make Rafa see what really matters....

2-0 to the pool.

villa are just the the team we need to play to get a good run of results together, as it will show we have fantastic team spirit after last sunday. i see villa as a spoiler team & nothing else, but they will not spoil our determination to get back on track in the prem, the result is the main thing today, the performances will follow! :)

I actually think that the fact that Villa have started so well might help us, hopefully they will come out and attack and the game will be more open.
If thats the case i cant see anything other than a home win.
But if O'Neill comes with his mindset on avoiding defeat and they frustrate us early, quietening the crowd then it could be a frustrating day.
As i said hopefully there decent start will persuade them to go for it.

I would like to see us score an early goal, because O'Neil usually sets his team up to stifle the opposition and then play on the break. The way our defence is playing I wouldnt be happy playing that sort of game. Early goal and we will win with something to spare, the longer we go without scoring the more likely they are to snatch a goal, and then we will be in real trouble!
