Yeah, our free kicks and corners are generally speaking less than inventive.

Maybe it's hard to work out a routine when the personnel likely to be involved keeps changing ? .

Woof totally agree about Stevie on the corners, not only would he decent around the D, he is actually very good at attacking the ball in the air and would be a threat for a goal.
I remember him scoring a couple of headers from corners in the treble season when it was probably Gary Mac taking the corners.
The problem we appear to have is that nobody at the club seems able to put a decent ball over, which is shocking tbh.

I would expect Alonso with a bit of practice and work on the training ground to be a very good bet, and although this smacks of me going back on what i have said about him today Aurellio as well  :D

I agree with woof here about aurelio... he is not a bad player at all... he has very balanced skills and i think his natural skills are not inferior to finnan...only thing is finnan is alot more consistent... in fact his form was very good just before he got injured and I thought him and riise had good combination down the left... both of them could play LW or LB and they can switch positions very easily...

we dont see in prem any more the old all players start on edge of box and some run to near some to far post corners any more they used to be very effective.

Most of time now you just see all players in box standing still hoping gerrard can play the ball right onto there little heads.

One wonders how we ever score from corners really if it wasnt for sami i dont think we ever would.

F'ucking hell lads , how much skill does it take to lob a ball into the box ? Even if was able to deliver a corner to the penalty spot or the near/far post from a corner, and that was when balls had laces and weighed half a ton !  :D

Problem was in those days nobody wanted to head the ball. :D

Aurelio is a talented player, and at times looks good.

Would he get in ahead of Ashley Cole, Patrice Evra or Geal Clichy ? In fact more to the point, would he get in front of Wayne Bridge, Armand Traore or Mikael Silvestre ?

In the cold hard light of day, the answer is sadly no to all of the above, including the second choice players - a sad inditement on lots of areas of our squad.

We really could do with a decent dead ball specialist at the club.

Here's a name I'll throw into the mix.  Nakamura.  Takes all the set pieces at Celtic - his corners are always into dangerous areas and he scores a reasonable amount too.  I mentioned him on here a year ago when it became apparent that Benayoun might be replacing Garcia here.  I suggested Nakamura simply because he's a similar player to those other two, with the added threat of set pieces.

Whether there's room in our squad however for another 'wide player' who isn't really an out-and-out winger I'm not so sure.

what we need is someone who can hit the ball past the first defender at corners...its embarressing. And as for Aurelios free kicks... like others say, he must be doing it on the training ground.

I dont know what everyones problem with hmi is. He had a very bad injury, now hes getting back and hes the best we've got, plus, i think with a decent run in the team we'll see how good he is.

And as for nakumura... why get a guy who can take free kicks, but can do feck all else. This isnt american football with specialist kickers... we need all round players... and i think aurelios gonna proove to be a good buy

Sadly very true Leon, and becoming more apparent by the week.

There are a few of our players who wouldn't even get second spot with our rivals.

I was reading about Chelsea and their strikers. Drogba, Anelka, Shevchenko, Pizzaro, Kalou. I wonder where Kuyt Voronin and Crouch would be in the pecking order?

Problem seems to be with dead ball specialists is finding an affordable one who other skills are better than average.

i have wanted liverpool to chase silva for years now that kid is gonna be a awsome player and he is very handly in dead balls and corners i even think he will be as good as gerrard.

But he isnt strong in tackle But on the plus side he is alot more creative.
