So, you can develop over the course of 2 years but the players can't? :D

Basically he sold Beardsley for about a third of what he paid for Dean Saunders.

On Souness' Wikipedia page, this pretty much sums him up for me:

On 6th November 1991 after Liverpool's 3-0 victory over Auxerre in a UEFA Cup 2nd round 2nd leg tie at Anfield, Graeme Souness, the manager of Liverpool at the time was met by Frenchman Michel Platini at the end of the game, and told him he had a player that would like to play for Liverpool, he said his name was Eric Cantona. Souness thanked Platini, but declined the offer, citing dressing room harmony as his reason.
