Diouf and Diao won't be missed half as much as Owen and Kewell. Our squad is a bit of a joke at the moment, several players aren't even in contention with "half our team missing through injury". Others are only in the XI because "half our team is missing through injury"

Matrix, I agree that the transfer market had changed dramatically between the time Liverpool bought Diuof and during last summer when Kewell was bought. However, how many goals has Diuof actually scored? And how many effective assists has he made? We can argue that perhaps he is one of the most skillful players we have on the ball. But then, his scoring rate is so paltry that even some defensive midfielders like Gilberto Silva of Arsenal scores more goals than him! Looking from a prospective that Diouf is an attacker and plays in an attacking position, that fact alone must surely mean that he is a failure...

Has anyone else noticed how many big signings are struggling to hold down one position - Heskey, Diouf, Biscan, Cheyrou, Diao, Smicer.......... We spent large amounts on these players and they are being played out of position. Why are we spending so much on players who don't seem to have defined roles? Would you see Van Nistelrooy playing on the wing? Would you see Vieira slotting in at centre-back? Why are we trying to accomodate these players instead of selling them?

I think Liverpool did pay more than what El Hadji Diouf is worth, however i still think he's a quality player. I think he's slowly but surely proving himself, he's doing pretty well in midfield and is even tracking back to help defence out, something that i thought he would'nt do! I think it's fair to say he's had more good game's than he has bad this season.

I think it's player's like Markus Babbel, Gregory Vignal, Djimi Traore, Igor Biscan, Salif Diou, Bruno Cheyrou, Vladmir Smicer and Emile Heskey that we need to get ride off, even if some of them are not playing often or on loan they still are not championship material, that's what Liverpool's biggest problem is, we need people who want to play for us, Houllier bring's in too many player's who he think's has potential and turn out to be average or below, that's not what we need. There is simply too many average player's at our club!

I'm coming to this thread after Christmas to  contradict all of ya punk *****, who wrote negative comments about Diouf. Ya  not the sharpest knife in the drawer and ya pretending to be specialists about football. Ya don't know jack sheet!
Diouf is not given a chance to play upfront so he can score goals. He is able to do it and I watched him do it.

Fair enough that he isn't playing up front very often but he hasn't been that great when he has played up front for Liverpool. It is really rather irrelevant what he did in the french league since Liverpool don't play in the french league. Half the players we bought from the french league came with reputations which remain unfulfilled.........
