Millwall are a good enough cup side at home to knock out any Premiership side in the league cup, and with the boss still settling in and a few players unhappy, it is a chance to give a few guys an opportunity.

Biscan and Diao need to play in the game as we may need to call on either of them if we pick up an injury in midfield, and Pongolle deserves a full 90 minutes. Better those 3 players (and others) being tested against an aggressive Millwall side than a pedestrian reserve game.

As I said, the league cup is now really a testing ground for the serious teams, and I bet within 2 seasons Man UTD/Arsenal/Chelsea will either not enter the competition or simply put out a reserve side, which they have done anyway.

Would it really be the end of the world if we get knoked out?

I think its worth the risk if we get to give some fringe and youth players a chance.

Its always nice to win, but Grimbsy knocked us out of the league cup (at Anfield!!!) in 2001/02 yet we still went on to finish second in the league that season.

I see the worthington cup as an opportunity for fringe and youth players to impress.

The FA should make a ruling where by more than half the players in the squad should be English.

Very true.

A lot of Man UTD and Arsenal players got their first real chance in the league cup and while sometimes they didn't really work out, it was a good way of giving youth and fringe players a chance in a competitive game.

I think Welsh should be a definate starter on Tuesday and I would think about giving Mellor, Warnock, Potter and even Raven a chance.

Yeah, Welsh non appearance over the last year has been a dissapointment.

Something serious has gone wrong with Mellor's career, however.

From what I've seen of Mellor I just can't see him making the grade at LFC. In fact I wouldn't even bet on him making premiership standard. It's a pity, but it's the truth

So true, Millwall are no pushovers, rugged, bite your ankles stuff, right out of the Wise book of niggle.
Like the idea of blooding the youngsters, but like to do it with some experience around so that they don't get baggered and lose confidence. It's also good to play in finals and win cups. The league cup is a trip to the Millenium Stadium and again great experience for young players and players new to the club.
We should set out to win this competition, but blend it so the young guys also get a run.

Sinama will not get playing time here. He is too average for us. He needs to improve, so we have two choices come January; loan or sell.
