I'm not convinced that he is "the real deal" he's certainly done well the last two seasons but prior to that he was distinctly average . Perhaps he's run into a rich vein late in his career , perhaps he's surrounded by better teamates the before . Either way at 29 not exactly a player with a long term future .

94-95 Modena 2 Goals, 7 Games (-)
95-96 Modena 5 Goals, 25 Games (-)
96-97 Empoli 1 Goals, 3 Games (-)
97-98 Fiorenzuola 2 Goals, 26 Games (-)
98-99 Lodigiani 5 Goals, 31 Games (-)
99-00 Trévise 15 Goals, 35 Games (-)
00-01 Vicenza 9 Goals, 31 Games (-)
01-02 Brescia 13 Goals, 28 Games (-)
02-03 Brescia 2 Goals, 16 Games (-)
04-05 Palerme 20 Goals, 35 Games (-)
05-06 Fiorentina 27 Goals, 33 Games (-)

BTW , Have we ever signed an Italian ? I'm wracking my brains and can't think of one .

I'm gonna be controversial here.

I think we should have a cheeky punt on Hernan Crespo. He really is clinical and seems to hit the target virtually every time he gets the ball. He's not the greatest of grafters, so I'm not sure he's a Rafa player, but if we'd had our best ten from this season with Crespo as Crouch's partner I reckon we'd currently be neck and neck with Chelsea for the title. Like Robbie in his pomp, he always hits the corners. Crespo is clinical, in my view.

Crespo wouldn't come to Anfield, he likes the London or Milan lifestyle  :(

Agree st mick, I’d take him in a heartbeat. On his day Crespo is world class IMO, and I mean WORLD CLASS. He is one of the best finishers I've seen in the last decade. I was at the Liverpool – Chelsea game at Stamford Bridge this season and his finish for Chelsea’s second goal was out of this world, even better considering it was on his weaker left foot. We also saw how good he can be in the CL final (scored two goals, but won fk all! : D) .

He gets caught offside a lot, but that’s because he plays off the shoulder off the last defender, and when he gets those runs right he's very difficult to mark. He definitely has excellent positional sense and movement, so I also agree on the point that he'd be an excellent partner for Crouchie.

He should start for Argentina in the World Cup. With him up front and players like Tevez, Messi, Veron and Riquelme working with him, Argentina should go damn close to winning the thing.

Chelsea would never ever sell him to us though unfortunately.

Inter Milan claim they already have him.  They are saying they will keep bidding till Fiorentina say yes.  Very good player but couldnt play with crouch and secondly If Fiorentina do decide to sell I can only see him going to one of the big Italian clubs.

Firoentina would demand too much and at his age that wouldnt be viable.

we had Gary McAllister at a late stage, weve got back Fowler at a late stage, so why not Luca Toni, who can score at any level ??
