I think Benitez has done well to get Agger in although i havent seen him play if the reports are anything to go by he is already a quality player who is pushing for the first team. Our other target was Simao but after Benfica beat the scum (:D ) it was always going to be difficult to bring him here. To be honest though from what i have seen of him i don't think we should buy him and if Chelsea end up forcing Benfica's hand with a bid of £15m (which has been reported) it could be a blessing in disgiuse. In the summer we would be able to make a serious bid for Joaquin.

I notice you specialist have correctly identified such a thread and a rogue poster on the Man yoo v Liverpool repeat thread from earlier so you are aware of the problem.
Phil's one of the best and most respected posters on here as I'm sure you're aware if you've been around for a year, and you seem to know your stuff aswell so it's probably time to let it go.

So speaks the voice of reason.

This January is pretty similar to 2002 when we'd just finished 2nd in the Premiership with 80 points. We were at a crossroads in terms of being just a few players off toppling the top team, who were Arsenal at the time. They were streets ahead of everybody in that season.

During that summer we were linked with Damien Duff and Nicholas Anelka who would have put the finishing touches to our squad at the time. We all know what happened next and consequently we had two pretty shocking seasons back to back which cost Houllier his job.

Forward to the present day. A point off 2nd spot with two games in hand, but a dauntingly rich (and consistent) Chelsea team to make up ground on. We're now enduring our longest unbeaten run in years, occasionally playing some stunning stuff, but always showing 110% commitment and determination. Results are now coming in even when we struggle to get out of first gear (see Spurs and West Brom as examples).

Arguably we're still three or four players off being a top top side who can consistently challenge Chelsea. A right sided midfielder, a striker, a centre back and a left back (or adequate cover at least). We've purchased a promising centre back in Daniel Agger (who in all honesty could be the next Sami Hyypia or the next Torben Piechnik) and a versatile defender in Jan Kronkamp.

Now it's time to continue to show shrewdness in the transfer market and make sure the players we buy fit into our current system, dressing room and mentality.

Fingers crossed.

There is no point buying anyone for the sake of it. We need to bide our time and make sure we get the right personel. I think we need a striker, a deadly finisher realy and obviously a right sided midfielder but there's no point in rushing and making a mistake.

Adriano? He's class, yes, but insanely expensive. The reports were that Inter rejected a £60m bid from chelsea last year. I think that puts him a little out our price range.

After signing Kromkamp and Agger I feel like Traore could be heading out the door. He certainly will get fewer chances now, and to be honest he needs first team football.

sooner the better. That lad is gonna be responsible for the number of heart attacks in liverpool soaring if he plays a couple more games.

Traore comes in when Rafa needs to rest Riise and Rafa does not risk Traore for big games. Sure Traore is a pr!ck but for the time being, we do not have much choice.

Every player is human, just like you and me and needs R&R from time to time.

I would prefer that Ukranian guy that plays for AC Milan. Let's get him. Maybe we could get him on loan at first.. ???

I doubt we will be seeing any big name signings under Rafa's tenure. Very good established players, or young hungry ones. Very few clubs make 15 million plus signings.  10 million even. I doubt that Rafa and LFC will ever be involved in signing one of world football's "hottest properties" in the immediate future...

WTF ....Whats the specialist for .....a specialist wánker....
what planet are you on that you could possibly think that AC Milan would offer shevchenko on loan to us or indeed anyone.....

The quality of these newbies on here beggars belief.

You would be the wa.nker. Both you and LIVERPOOL _FC_YNWA are dimwits as well. The Specialist is an Interpol song, as well as my username on here.. Now, do you know who Interpol are? Probably not, although they are well-known. What have you been drummin' on, Phil?? Your head?? You thick :censored:. Now, why don't you think a bit before you start to spout off. You look quite foolish now. I don't like to be rude, but don't provoke me. I'm not a newbie, btw. I've been on this board for over a year and some change. I just re-registered due to computer problems.

The signing of Xabi was big money, yes. But, not an extreme amount. This is what I am saying. And, although Real and the Mancs were interested they never stepped up their interest and made it serious from the beginning. Real toyed with the idea of signing him for a bit too long, and I don't remember what happened with the Mancs. Either club could easily outbid us, though. They are probably kicking themselves now. Puddy mentioned Adriano. One of the best and most recognized strikers in the world. Household name. He would easily cost any club wanting to buy him in excess of 25 million, IMO. That's unrealistic. Xabi Alonso wasn't a household name when we signed him. Most Liverpool supporters hadn't heard of him before, let's be honest. Only people who watched La Liga knew much of him. Gerrard, Henry, Adriano, etc. Everyone knows of them. This was my point, I don't think we will ever buy these types of players flat out. They cost insane money. This is why I said "very-good experienced (doesn't mean old) players" are our realistic targets instead of highest of profile ones. I'm not even going to comment of Cisse as his tranfer cost is a joke..

So who were you then?
If you changed your log in due to a computer fault - what was the fault?

What can I smell?...Is it...errr....bullsh*t?  ???

Sort of. They wanted Xabi, and they wanted him cheap as they knew we needed the money. The typical pressure of Marca and the capital media started. Since there was not that much money in Spanish football, only Madrid and Bar$a might seem able to enter the bids, and Bar$a never entered. I just think they didn't expect the Liverpool movement. They played, and they'd win in normal circunstances but Rafa surprised them. For our cheer. ALonso in Real Madrid would hurt, tbh.

As for mancs, it was more than a rumour, since the day the borther of Ferguson appeared in Anoeta with a notepad, but IIRC there was not formal contact between Real Sociedad and Mancs boards about the player. In case of Madrid, there was.
