i think rafa starts to find his nearly-best XI,
he probably would field the same lineup should garcia uninjured and momo hasn't that much yellow cards

All those saying Kuyt and Crouch wouldn't work as a partnership are noticeable by their absence!

Looking like a quality partnership, I think Bellamy will struggle to push his way back in.

A sort of nice headache for Rafa.B (ie who to play up front when the all forwards are firing on all cylinders).

Only sour note was Pennant - he had acres of space at times and just wasted it, then Alonso put him through and instead of running in on goal, he runs out to the touchline and hits his cross way too far.

Pretty boring game, but good to get 2 goals.
Well done Kuyt! Great work. We played ok, nothing too good, but we won & thats the main thing.

Best players on pitch Where Kuyt, his work rate is phenominal.
Alonso was also fantastic today i thought.

Now lets smash the gunners & this time its the real test, because its away

Hard game to assess today as Reading worked very hard to close Liverpool down, but we still managed to creat chances and pressure.
Ratings :-

Reina 7 missed one cross but was otherwise steady

Finnan 6 quiet game
Riise 6 worked hard
Hyypia 8 carried the ball forward and defended well
Carra 7 looked shaky at times but made some crucial blocks

Zenden 7 tried hard
Alonso 8 missed a few early tackles but played better second half, made a few great passes second half
Gerrard 8 worked hard ran tirelessly just needed a little more luck
Pennant 5 Poor

Kuyt  9 worked hard 2 goals even ran 50 yds to make a tackle (M.O.M)
Crouch 8 made a goal and worked hard

Our home form has never been in question, it's our away form that needs addressing again this season. It was a good match by us, we didn't play our best football mainly because we weren't allowed to by a well organised and very defensive Reading.

Roll on the next match.

its not really our form that needs addressing away from home, its our 451 formation.

a football pitch is a football pitch, why do we have to change away from home?  is it really that different?

ppl on crack if u can given zenden a 7 and giveb pennant a 5 lol, zenden is :censored:, did nothing in first half was anonomous in 2nd half, at least pennant got forward put in some crosses and managed to beat ppl sometimes zenden didnt manage that much, the needless abuse of pennant is ridiculous

I only gave Pennant a 5 because he took the corner from which we scored - he would have been a 4 otherwise.

Well they both link hand in hand don't they? If the form is bad that is due to the style of play we are deploying on the pitch, which can trace back to the tactics. I've never seen the difference between playing home or away, but it's becoming inevitable that teams playing away will play more negatively and cautiously than at home for instance, not sure why that is.

I think its nice to see the strike partnership flourishing, and lets keep it going with the same up front if it seems like a winning formula.

Pennant is young and he'll learn in time with us, I have noticed mild improvements in his play since he joint, he just needs to know when to beat his man and cross the ball in and when to have a shot on goal, he's too unselfish for my liking, he'll get himself into a great goal scoring opportunity, yet he'll either drift out on to the flank with the ball and cross it or he'll pass it across the box.

The most important thing is not who played under par and who played very well today, the important thing is we broke down a stern defensive Reading side and come out with the three points whilst not playing our best football.

Looked to be a comfortable victory today, hopefully we can take this momentum into the Arsenal game.

Looks as though there's a few  Kuyt songs already

come it it man, he wasnt brilliant but at least he got himself involved in the game unlike the almost completely anonymous Zenden who you have given 7/10! you also gave several players 6's and 7's for working hard, are you saying that Pennant didnt do that either?
