Cant see why we didnt work a bit harded in our efforts to sign Mickeal. I think owen would have been an ideal partner for either Crouch, Moreintes, Cisse. (Where the goals are gonna come from this season, to be title challengers, is beyong me??).
Although Newcastle will improve, they have no European football and in my opinion will struggle to provide it next season.
Surley the club could have dug a bit deeper into their pockets or pulled a few more strings to bring him home.
Anyway Rafa knows best.. just woulda been nice to see him and Morientes work together..

Totally agree with you Roma. Think the £17m that Newcastle offered Real + a weekly wage (probably greatly inflated) has tempted him to go to Newcastle...Benitez obviously wanted him (we bid after owen met Rafa y'day) but it's come down to money at the end of the day!!

I know mate.

Apparently Liverpool may be making a last minute effort to hijack the bid!! Could we have another Gerrard scenario on our hands?!?!?

Why turn down the possibility of CL football in 2005/06 with a strong possibility of it in 2006/07 (although nothing guaranteed yet) & Playing with the best Midfielder in europe (Stevie G) in what is a far better (and settled squad) to instead join a team languishing at the bottom of the league with a sh*t manager and a bunch of :censored: for team mates (Dyer, Bowyer etc). Playing in the Intertoto cup must have swayed his decision!!!!  :wwww

Liverpool Want Bonera-Parma GM
8/30/2005 2:43:00 PM
Liverpool are attempting a last minute signing of Parma defender Daniele Bonera, announced the Serie A club’s general manager Oreste Cinquini.
“The new owners told me they don’t want to sell Bonera. But Liverpool’s offer has been rising by the minute. If this trend continues, I will have to report back to management, and see what they say,” he said.

Cinquini then confirmed Bonera has requests in Italy as well.

“Inter, and another important Serie A club have asked us about him,” he revealed.

Bonera is a starter on the Italian national team.

We had better move quickly as less than 36 hours left in the transfer window.

Why we let it go this long is beyond me, its gonna be a long time before Liverpool have the same appeal to top players (after our amazing win in istanbul) as this summer. I dont think we used it enough..
I personnally expected at least another 1 or 2 top drawer players. Remains to be seen over the next 30 hours or so..

I am hopeful that we have a few irons in the fire and that these will be confirmed in the next day or so. Benitez is a sly git and will have something up his sleeve. Remember when Alonso/Garcia etc signed..I for one didn't hear much about it til they signed...

I live in hope because if we don't sign players then in my eyes we are pretty short of the top class squad we should have!!

I admit I did say that Owen WOULD sign for us today but I was clearly proven wrong. My sources have let me down on this occasion.

Back to the ring for me...  :sniffle
