SKRTEL KNEE INJURY CONFIRMED

from .tv

Martin Skrtel will discover in the next 24 hours how long he will be out of action after a scan revealed posterior cruciate ligament damage in his right knee.
The Slovakian defender was stretchered off during Sunday's 3-2 victory at Manchester City after falling awkwardly on the edge of his own penalty area.

"Martin underwent a scan this morning which showed damage to the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee," said club spokesman Ian Cotton.

"He will see a specialist tomorrow to assess the extent of the injury and will then have an accurate idea of the timescales involved before he is back playing again."

I wish they'd stop showing these type of accidents in slow motion on the tv all the time.....I can't stand it.

Is it me or has he been cruising for something like this to happen for a while now. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he did anything wrong in that specific tackle and definitely wouldn't wish it on anyone, but the way he has been flying into tackles over the last few games, he reminded me a lot of Gazza in that game when he screwed his knee up.

I know he has the odd moment of madness (like that kick in the back yesterday) but generally he's been sold as a rock for me.

Luckily we still have two top class centre halves in reserve, both of whom we can rely on completely. I have total faith in Agger and Sami to step into the breech and do a job.

Agree there Saint Mick although Agger has a lot to do to get back to his best form and just as worrying for our European adventures is the fact that Sammi is ineligible for CL games.   :(

i know he's CL cuptied woof but in all fairness, thank f#ck we managed to persuade sami to stay on at the club for another year in the summer. he was very close to leaving but thank god he didn't now.

That is something that I fear may just hinder our league campaign funnily enough. I just fear that Rafa will go into rotation mode again and the weekend before a UCL game he'll roatate the defence to make sure Agger is fit and available.
This is Karma coming back to bite Rafa in the @rse for leaving Sami out of the squad I suppose  :D .

Just hope Skittle will make a quick recovery but it's not sounding too good.  :(

It's quite ironic really, the only man capable of hurting Martin Skrtle IS Martin Skrtel!!!

Hope Martin skrtel recovers fast , out for 2 months would be ok . Thank god we still have big sami with us , who was instrumental last season and now agger gets he's chance and he better take it .

Zabaleta is a :censored: though , went it straight for xabi's ankle , i hope the FA extend his ban to 5 game at least , no intention to win the ball whatsoever .

it says a lot about the player that at first we were concerned about him being an adequate replacement for agger, when it seems that pretty much everyone has done a full 180 on that now.

Well he's been given a chance for a start and I think we all hold Sami in such high regard that it's understandable we all got a little bit nervy. We're starting to look solid at the back again (touching wood), but there was a time when it looked like Sami was on his last legs and we were very vulnerable at the back (touching cloth) :D

I like Skrtel, in fact he scares the :censored: out of me. i hope he gets over it quick. Again, when you see someone as badass as him react to the pain in the way he did, you know it isn't a good sign.

It should be a lesson to all refs who can't distinguish diving from a real foul. When someone is taken down, they go down like a sack of spuds and there's no confusing that with a Ronaldo 9.9 special from the top board.

God bless Sami though....how old is he now? 98? Like the frikkin duracell bunny he is.

I know this isn't the right thread, but what a game yesterday too......haven't felt that proud in a long while.....there's a spirit to the team at the moment. Watched it on MOTD in bed....bad move....woke the missus up twice, once swearing at the 2nd goal we let in and then 3 times in a row as the goals went in  :D ....hang on, that's 5 times innit?

i'm absolutely gutted about this injury, skrtel has been brilliant all season alongside carra, agger is a good replacement but he doesn't have the same aggression and toughness that skrtel gives the team which is badly needed at centre back. although sami has been a good servant to this club i hope rafa limits his appearances as i think he would be a major weak link. hopefully this won't disrupt our good season to date and hopefully skrtel won't be out too long. get well soon martin and hurry back cos we need you

It reminded me of Owen's injury in the Euro's a few years back. As soon as the joint opened and I saw his immediate reaction I knew there was a fair chance of it being the cruciate ligament.

He's been generally solid so far this season, and it's a massive loss because that's his season effectively over, and just as we were debating how and when Agger would get back into the side, Skrtel gets a nasty injury.

As for the UCL, Agger will have to suffice for the group stages, then we can register Hyypia for the knockout stage - should we get there.

Do we have to wait for it to be confirmed how bad the injury was before we start arguing about recovery times, or can we just jump right in ?

I am going for 6 weeks before he can start training again, with 4 weeks more before he's back in contention for a game. i.e. back mid December :(
