Evra will be difficult to deal with.  But for all his pace and his presence at the back he does have a bit of a tendancy to drift up the field.  Quick passing or a long ball over the top (Alonso looks even better then Gerrard at that) would probably be able to catch him out.

I think Cisse could play a role in the match, he scored 4 goals against Monaco (in all competitions) so he would be my first choice striker ahead of Baros.

Cisse did not really have a good game yesterday. He showed some good moments though (like running at defence & blasting a right footer from a tight angle which the WBA goalie did well to save). For Cisse to come good, i really think we should have good width. Kewell is OK at left but finnan at right..... Don't get me wrong finnan had an OK game but we need a better right winger.

And 1 more thing, why doesn't dudek catch the ball. Every shot that comes to him, he just palms it away......

As for against monaco, i think it would be a very hard match. They have some great players. We might need to play ugly to win against them.

Garcia missed a good chance and he shot wide instead of passing to Gerrard who was better placed to have a good shot at goal yesterday. He was intent on scoring and having scored yesterday, I think it will do his confidence a lot of good.

Finnan's goal was the pick of the lot as he could have chosen to fall down under a challenge from a WBA defender and then skipped past another to plant a shot past Hoult's near side post. Good win but Monaco will be a harder nut to crack.

I prefer garcia's goal. I liked the way cisse, gerrard & garcia linked up for that goal. Simply class.........

I guess RB is gonna play with 1 withdrawn striker supported by mobile wingers....

1 good thing for me yesterday, my fav player kewell seems to be getting back to his best...... Just imagine with kewell, Garcia & Gerrard on form (thus pulling defenders off them), Cisse & Baros will score load of goals..

Beating the scums at OLD THRASHFORD will start our season. If we can stop ronaldo, should have no problem beating them.

I wouldn't read too much into yesturday's game either way as we also had a few nice home victories under Gerard Houllier last year as well.

It was nice to see us win and win well, but there is a hell of a lot of progress to be made yet.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that our forward play will be based around Garcia playing in a withdrawn role behind Cisse, and I'm not convinced that Benitez sees Baros as first choice at the moment.

I was surprised to see Alonso and Baros on the bench, possibly to rest them for Monaco. I think they were tired for this game so Rafa wanted to rest them for Monaco which is a probably true.

I think we have a good chance of beating Monaco if we continue playing as one, and a win over Manchester would be great as well.

Did you watch the game lad? If so you would see that the team selection was nothing to do with resting players, more to do with picking the best team to beat the baggies.

Luis Garcia was superb.

No I didn't watch the game, I stated that based on what I read.
