Stevie can defend just a little bit.  You are better off having midfielders that can fulfill the role of both attacker and defender.  Stevie can do both.

I don't know where this 'defensive midfielder' idea has come in.  It seems a very European thing.  Anyone who thinks Viera or Keane are purely 'holding' midfielders is wrong.  I saw Viera charging down the field ahead of all the attackers at the weekend and Keane gets forward a damn site more that Hamman.

Yeah...but who do u think is good enuff to play on the right wing for liverpool at the moment?

Gerrard's position is in the centre, i don't dispute that. But at the current moment and for the sake of getting that 4th spot, liverpool has to start with a midfield consisting of Cheryou, Hamann, Gerrard and Kewell.

Murphy and Diouf are just not doing it in the right wing.

That's all well and good for them because they play in front of a good defence. If we get exposed Biscan sh*ts himself and wrestles the player to the floor by his shorts!!!!

steven gerrard is not a "holding midfield player". you take away half of his game and waste his ability by doing that. thats why nicky butt plays for england on a regular basis as the hoding player allowing gerrard to get forward more.

I'm not trying to say that Stevie is a holding midfield player.  My point is that we shouldn't need a specialised holding player.  If Stevie played with Cheyrou in the middle maybe he would sit slightly deeper that Cheyrou, but not as much as Hamman does now.

This is all masking our major problem which is our lack of pace at the back (ckay - agree with your point about Biscan).  If we had two big quick, quality centre halves we wouldn't need Didi at all.  :;):

I agree coley. No need for a specific player at all if you have the pace at the back. Who is there out there though who would come to a UAFA cup club. If we were Champions League bound it would be different.

i think that's why biscan is being preferred to henchoz at the moment. he's got more pace. shame he's got no football ability though.

If that's why he's there then Didi should be dropped if that is GH's logic.  I don't think he thinks like that though. :;):

He's got pace alright. He's the fastest player in the world over his chosen distance. 6ft to floor in 0.03 seconds.

i'm still undecided about hamann at this stage. he's great at what he does but i still think we should be looking to replace him with someone who has more of an attacking sense. i mean he's virtually playing as a centre back half the time.

WE don't need to buy anyone else. With have loads of attacking midfielders but GH wont play them because of our statuesk defence.

you take gerrard and kewell out and look at how many goals our midfield have scored from open play. not enough.

But how many times has Hamman been left out?

when fit he hasn't been left out. he was injured for about 2 months. i'm saying that we rely toomuch on owen and kewell for our goals. i think hyypia has scored more goals than hamann, murphy, smicer etc.
