I think Walcotts fee was around 12 but thats still nearly half of what our team cost. Mind u they got Baptista in a swap for Reyes and Reyes was about 14 million.

A couple of decent performances for the youth team and the fact he arrived with a decent rep and every man and his dog seems to think he should be in the first team.

I have an e-season ticket as you know Scott, you can watch all the reserve games, etc on there and I have watched Roque, Anderson, Hobbs, Antwi quite a few times, they seem more ready than Guthrie and Peltier did last night  :;):

Aliadaire is :censored:, he's Arsenal's version of ALT and even he made Paletta look like a sunday league player, he's player well once against Birmingham but I'm not too convinced tbh  :(

I agree that Aliadere is just about one of the worst strikers in the league yet he was terrorizing us.

Yeah you've got a point there mate, i guess they couldn't do any worse. I'm keen to see the likes of Anderson but i guess there must be a reason why he's not been thrown it just yet.

Toure 150,000 Almunia 500,000, Fabregas 2.5million, Song 2.5million, Walcot 5million ( Walcotts price rumoured to eventually be as high as 12million ). Although there are afew whos fee is undisclosed. Our team cost over 27million ???

Is how much money has been spent even the point? What we saw on Tuesday night was the result of 10 years' work, with Arsenal's youth set-up designed to scout and develop the best young players across the world. Rafa's been in the job 2 years, and by all accounts is even now having problems controlling the academy, which until recently would only seem to work with local kids.

think the point I was trying to make (but which didn't come across that way at all!) was that having a successful youth policy like Arsenal's isn't just about spending a lot of money on the players - it's about being able to identify them and then move quickly enough to bring them into the club ahead of all the other hundreds of clubs worldwide who are going to want to do the same.

That's what Wenger is so good at - and he's been allowed to by a board who, as far I know, handed the academy over to him lock, stock and barrel and who back his judgement when he wants to bring a player in.

From what I know, I don't think either of those things necessarily applies to Rafa's situation here.

Barcelona actually taunt English clubs for always snooping at there young players.  They say English clubs cant produce there own players.

Toure £150,000.  What a snip!!!

Interesting little interview with Steve Heighway about foreign imports and the youth system:

I've always had to be careful because I worked with a French manager here who had some very strange views of the game, didn't like anyone disagreeing with him, who bought 14 French players who all had to be sold when a new man came in.

Doesn't sound like Heighway was a fan of Houllier  :D

Having said that, I heard that Heighway had a big row with Benitez earlier this season and was supposed to be finishing at Christmas (obviously incorrect)
