Posted: Mon Jan 09, 2006 4:49 pmA very good buy considering i had never heard of him before we bought him.I had reservations about spanish players settling here and being able to compete with the physical demands of a fast paced premiership.Mendieta at Boro came with all the plaudits of a top class player and i cant say he has set our game alight,Alonso on the other hand is best spanish import we have had.......worth every penny.

In fact i've just checked out his played stats for villa and it's not possible for him to reach 40 apps for them before the end of the season as he's only played 15 in all competitions upto now.

within one year the fella has won the respect of the all fans in this country no matter what club they support.
we should give them double what their entitled to and send his hometown a plaque thanking them for sending us a player who helped us win the champions league thus giving a football mad city its pride back.

Posted: Mon Jan 09, 2006 9:44 pmFor me, the fella is the new midfield meastro of the modern game. A real footballer with the first touch from heaven, the quick thinking brain ten minutes ahead of most and something quite rare in a foriegn midfielder- he loves a tackle! oh dear i need a tissue.
I love im and i hope he stays with us for many a year, coz hes the sort of player that as long as hes playing down the middle he could go on for ages, say as a sweeper. woohoo. our best signing since Gary Mac!
