Each time i have seen Wigan play, he has been probably there best player.
He works hard is good in posession, and pops up with the odd goal.
He scored a cracker at home to Arsenal.

I am not sure he would be the right sort of player for us, but i am sure he would improve the squad.

One of your other main suggestions stu, is the more likely and better option imo....PENNANT.

interesting post. People say we should be looking for world class players but that really annoys me because that says that we cant; a: nurture them through our ranks. b: scout players with potential to become the very best.

Success doesn't come over night and we at liverpool must know that more than anyone else.
When rafa was at tenerife, he bought a guy called luis garcia. Not world class then but argubly would get into most teams willing to accomodate him. So we have a world class player now, but you guys (most of you) hadn't heard of him.

Houllier bought a player from willemII called sami hyypia, now at the time you all wanted taribo west. I don't know who became the better player! I'll leave that for you to decide. Now Ranieri bought Lampard for 12m i know not a steal but most people were saying why? Cole and Carrick were better. But chelski reap the rewards of the second best midfielder in the prem.

Most of you laughed when crouchy was linked with us (even i had my doubts) but rafa and peter have proved us wrong. Which is why they get paid the big bucks. We mere mortals must do with fantasy football and champ manager.

Joaquin or simao? Most are edging for Joaquin. Why? I guess it cos we watch spanish  footie on sky and most dont watch the portuguese league. Same applies to bullard in the championship. But he has proved he can play in the prem along with a few others that i had doubts about. Harewood and ferdinand at west ham.

Buying Bullard would be a small gamble cos we already know he can play in prem but here at lfc we have euro football every year. Can he play at that level? I'm not sure but must be worth a look.

Well done stu, a good player capable of playing for liverpool without costing the earth or having an exotic name.

Why we are on the subject of cheaper gambles how about tal ben haim at Bolton. When Liverpool are away i go to watch them at the reebok cos i live 2mile away and for me he would be a great cb for cover or straight in.

I havent seen much of him, but Bolton are one of the best defensive teams in the Premiership and i read in one of the (cough) Sunday papers that he was being looked at by Chelsea.

I think he's ok.  I'd probably rather have someone with some European pedigree, but I think we could do a lot worse.  As others have mentioned he works hard and does most things well.

Lets not forget we bought a certain Mr Kevin Keegan from the lower leagues once, and Ian Rush and John Aldridge.  All in my opinion world class players.

Stu are you saying that you are better than proffessional scouts  ???

So what about Steve Finnan? He was well into his mid 20s before making his Premiership debut.

Peter Crouch?

Dean Ashton?

Your entitled to your opinion...and you may be right, imo with Bullard its 50-50 whether he would be good enough.

But the reason you give for him not being upto it was a bit poor.

1) because he is not exactly old (26 i think)
2) some players have never had a chance at a higher level.

I am not saying he would be good enough, but he is a decent premiership midfielder who would do a job for whoever he is playing for.
