''Robinho race hots up
by Graeme Bailey -  Last Updated 28 Oct 2004
Robinho's agent has confirmed negotiations with Benfica, PSV Eindhoven and Internazionale are ongoing - while Chelsea are still being tipped as the money men behind the whole transfer.

The Brazilian starlet looks set to move in January, with Europe's elite jostling to secure the services of South America's top young talent. ''

We are in Europes elite, are the Red's in the race for this lad ?

I read an article about him and he is supposed to be the business but the club he's with are holding out for a huge payday so Id expect Madrid, Barca or Chelsea ossibly Man Utd.

The other clubs may be holding clubs as they stated they wanted to avoid the likes of PSV who take talent and make a mint selling them on later.

I do not see Benitez paying a huge amount of money for one player, another stupid rumour.

Its the old Brazilian cliche of the next Pele but apparently this time its true

If Rafa had the money he would, every club is afer this lad but him being a kid etc I expect Spain or Portugal, culturally closer etc

Turkish lire probably makes more sense. But he`s meant to be the best player Brazil have produced in years so it make sense he would be worth the same as Wayne Rooney.

Pity we haven't got the money.
With Rafa and the other Spaniards we would have a good chance of making him feel at home in the UK. But no doubt Chelsea's, Portugeuse manager is giving it large on that score.

In have seen Robinho play and so far the hype looks justified.
Terrific skill and balance, a case of "move over Ronaldinho".

From what I heard tonight Chelsea have the deal almost done where they'll pay something like £10m to Santos and then send Robinho on loan to Benfica for a while in order that he gets a work permit.

I think Redrider is right: if PSG can bring Ronaldinho to Europe, PSV Ajax and Socidead Rivaldo, surely we can bring a top class young South Aamerican starlet over.

Then again, for every Ronaldino there must be a dozen big money moves from Brazil to Europe that never work out.

Some of the stuff that happens over there is close to child exploitation. Footballers being sold all over the world.

To my knowledge, we have never had a South American, player on our books. I guess we do not have any scouting connections, on that continent.
Perhaps Rafa, is in a position to improve our interest in the South American scene so that we can be in there for future starlet's. We need to be up with the best !!
