The pitch!

Is it really that bad? Has it worsened as the season's progressed? Who's to blame? Should he be sacked? Why, if our pitch is so bad, do we play a style that would be inhibited by the playing surface where other teams would use it to their advantage?

I thought I'd open this thread so we can keep Glenn Johnson's thread sacred. Mhm.

Isn't a market-stall also called a pitch?

Pitch:
The quality of a sound governed by the rate of vibrations producing it
The steepness of a slope, especially of a roof.
A section of a climb, especially a steep one.
The height to which a hawk soars before swooping on its prey.
A level of the intensity of something, especially a high level
A form of words used when trying to persuade someone to buy or accept something
A swaying or oscillation of a ship, aircraft, or vehicle around a horizontal axis perpendicular to the direction of motion
The distance between successive corresponding points or lines, for example between the teeth of a cogwheel
A measure of the angle of the blades of a screw propeller, equal to the distance forward a blade would move in one revolution if it exerted no thrust on the medium.
The density of typed or printed characters on a line, typically expressed as numbers of characters per inch

The fact that anyone is giving this excuse any credibility has no doubt been note by Van Gaal for future use.

Johnson's problem is his game, not the pitch. Folks questioned why he went straight back into the team and immediately he blames the pitch....

Pitch is in a bad way but should never have been allowed to get this bad.

I question what kind of manager would put Johnson back in the team and will that same manager risk the chance of a top 4 finish and FA Cup triumph purely for the sake of sentiment.

Well it's a bit odd that we got this far into the season before the pitch became an issue worthy of mention. Some poor lil groundskeeper will be expecting his P45 any day now. Let's just hope Blackburn have a pitch worthy of our game.

Joe Allen reckons Johnson is the comedian of the team, maybe he meant he plays like one

Perhaps I am being a little too simplistic here, but has anyone compared this pitch to anything from the 70's and 80's from winter onwards? Didn't seem to bother anyone then.....If it's our home pitch, surely it can be turned to our advantage in comparison to the visitors?

I guess the days of playing with pink balls in front of thousands of freezing fans are long gone. Footballs changed a lot too.

Given the techical ability of many of our players and the style of football we now play I think a poor surface actually works against us and instead works in favour of those players with inferior ability that visit us.

its rodgers' fault. if he'd paid more attention to the pitch than having new girlfriends and getting his teeth fixed we'd have been champions 17 more times by now.
