yeh nice idea, but can you tell me why Lampard would leave Chelsea, he's playing almost every game and playing well in a team that are challenging for League and European honours.
The rest ok, Cisse is coming, Mexes is a strong possibility and Malbranque would be a good signing but i'd prefer Mendieta.

i'm interested to watch mendieta's performance on sunday against us. i suppose it will be hamann or gerrard's job to man mark him. he cannot be allowed time on the ball because he will dictate the game. boro's weakness is their strikers and if we defend well we should win the game.
boro have a good defence but they are ageing and have no pace. that is why once again i would like to see BAROS start. however i can see houllier persisting with heskey to try and put him in the shop window for boro.

An ideal, realistic team i would like to see would be:
Dudek
Carragher Mexes Hyypia Riise
Finnan Gerrard Hamann Kewell
Owen Cisse
Then you have these player's as back up:
Kirkland
Henchoz
Murphy
Le Tellec
Pongolle
Baros
And so on.
We really don't need much to make us a greater force, just a few star buy's and we're flying!

We need 4 quality signings: a centre forward, a centre back, a right midfielder and a creative midfielder to get us moving again.

spot on JGB, then we would have the strength and depth in our squad, provided we sign good players, then we'd have as follows
Dudek or Kirkland
Carra
Hyppia
new signing
Finnan
new signing
Steven Gerrard
new signing
Harry Kewell
Owen (hopefully)
Cisse
bench: Riise, Dudek/Kirkland, Baros, Murphy, Henchoz along with backups like Le Tallec, Pongolle etc
With this team we would be back up there challenging with Arseanl, Chelsea and Manu, provided the signings are good.

I agree with LFC1 here.
Four top drawer signings tied into our current squad, a fresh start, (a new manager!) would see us challenging the top three.

We need some top signings, but we gotta rememeber to get rid of some of the dead wood this time as well. Theres a lot of talk of Houllier being annoyed at Diouffs lifestyle so there is a chance that he could be going. May be for the best as the guy wnts to be a striker anyways, well... he is a striker! Who knows

Houllier is getting rid of diouf because of his lifestyle??? I'd like to see a day where GH would come and say"the player was'nt the player he is supposed to be and granted i made an error signing him". Oh well i'll dream on!

Personally I'm disappointed that Diouf looks like he's on his way. He's clearly a talented player and I would've kept him for another season to see what he could do (much like Cheyrou). The biggest problem he faced was always his price tag.

I'd sign Malbranque, Forsell, Stead, and Sean Wright Phillips.
I'd sell Diao, Diouf, Biscan, Smicer, and Traore.

I do think Diouf should hang about a little longer. What people need to remember is that he was signed as a striker, not as a right winger, so it was always going to take him time to get himself sorted. If people are going to be so patient with Kewell, maybe they should afford Diouf the same treatment. That said, it wouldn't surprise me to see him go at the same time a big signing is made, to disguise the fact that he's been such poor value so far.
I agree that three quality signings for central defence, right midfield and creative central midfield (assuming the Cisse deal is as signed and sealed as we're hearing) are what we need to look for. For me, getting Mexes, Wright-Phillips and either Joe Cole or Okocha would be spot on. We've got enough dead wood in Diao, Smicer, Biscan and Traore to facilitate some kind of swap deal for Jay-Jay, and it wouldn't surprise me if Diouf + cash was enough to tempt Keegan into letting Wright-Phillips go.
So...
Dudek
Carra Mexes Hyypia Riise
Wright- Okocha Gerrard Kewell
Phillips
Cisse Owen

i wouldn't buy neither okocha nor djokaeff!! both are / were talented players but imo they don't fit to liverpool. famous names don't get us back to the top...
