WEll, not exactly what we were hoping for from Transfer Deadline Day..  (and to be honest I dont know if its even worth its own thread - but thought I'd stick it up anyway!)

German teenager Christopher Buchtmann moves from Liverpool FC to Fulham

Feb 1 2010 by James Pearce, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL have agreed a deal to sell young left-back Christopher Buchtmann to Fulham for £100,000.

The 17-year-old German joined the Reds’ Academy in 2008 after making the switch from Borussia Dortmund.

Buchtmann was part of the Reds team who reached last season’s FA Youth Cup final and last summer he played a starring role in Germany’s European Under-17 Championship triumph. He was named among UEFA’s top 10 stars of the future.

However, after being promoted to Melwood he has struggled to impress this season and has been off-loaded to the Cottagers.

What it says about him on the offal:

German left-back Christopher Buchtmann was named among UEFA's top 10 stars of the future in May 2009.

The accolade coincided with his starring role in Germany's European U17 Championship triumph.

Not that anyone at Liverpool needed telling about his undoubted talent. Buchtmann played a key part in the U18s reaching the FA Youth Cup final in 2008-09 and was thus promoted to Melwood after just a year at the Academy.
The teenager, who can operate either as a left-back or on the wing, competes for a place in John McMahon's reserves.

bit of a strange one this... was young, had a lot of promise from what I've heard, motm performances in quite a few games, but I suppose if the powers that be dont see anything, then best to get rid

Absurd this one, he looks really good  ???

And 100,000 is peanuts, whats that a weeks wages to Gerrard ?

See no point in that at all, a loan would have been better.

Unless its something disciplinary ?

Couple of rumours doing the rounds, one where he'd apparently refused to sign a new contract and wished to rejoin up with Malcolm Elias who was with us for a while, but now he's at Fulham, they tried to sign Dalle Valle last season but that deal fell flat on its face before really even getting off the ground, another rumur doing the rounds was he was a bit of a lad off the field he'd apparently been warned about his off the field conduct and his lifestyle numerous times.

Saw the u18s game against Leicester City the other week and was very impressed with him playing on the right hand side, sweet left foot, could play either left back or left midfield, quite an array of passing, the lad was also voted one of the outstanding prospects at the u18 tournamant last year definitely one for the future.

If its a football decision then get rid, if its because of attitude or off field antics that should be able to be sorted at such a young age, if he is as good as the reports its a very poor piece of business to let him go so cheap.

If he turns out to be a star for Fulham and then sold to City for a stupid amount in a couple of years, serious questions will be asked about our youth policy.

Can't see it being a football decision myself, the lad is held such high regard with a lot of respected ex pros, he can't be that bad a player if he was rated in the top 10 future superstars by UEFA.

wow... really liked the lad... his crosses and corner kicks are almost Beckhamesque... and he has quite good close control... what a shame... rafa should give more chances to the youngsters...
