Bit early for a thread on this match, but I'm sure I've not been alone in enjoying reports of an injury crisis hitting Chelsea's preparations for the new season.

They were already all but resigned to having Terry and Ballack miss the first 4 weeks of the season, but now there are doubts over Drogba, Robben (who may well have moved on by the time the game comes round anyway), Shevchenko, Makelele, Kalou, Johnson, Ferreira for their opening weekend fixture against Birmingham. In addition, Lampard's currently apparently playing with a broken toe, Cech has a hand injury, and Malouda suffered a dead leg in the Community Shield.

Put them all together, and it's roughly the equivalent of us having to field a team without Carragher, Gerrard, Kuyt, Kewell, Torres, Alonso, Crouch, Riise, Finnan, Mascherano, Reina and Pennant. Whether they all recover sufficiently to play a week on Sunday (Aug 19th) or not, missing training at this stage is a huge blow to them, and so long as we can get through the next week and a half with minimal damage to our own personnel, I'd say we look like fairly heavy favourites right now.

i think it's just rubbish. they tend to say this or that is injured and next thing you know is the player is on the field.

but yes, i admit i had a smile when i saw the injury list

we have to put them to the sword while they are weak,

a massive three point at a very early stage, i think chavski will come for a point at best if terry and drogba are out

Seriously though, Drogba will be back for the 19th. I'll stick a tenner on it.

Fack Chelsea, We are f'n Liverpool. We will batter them, no matter what lineup they throw out on the pitch.

Jose always posts a huge injury report out to the press so when his team gets turned over, he has an excuse in place.

I dont' like this second tier mentality. we have shown we can beat them, and now we need to BELIEVE we can beat them (and all the others too) without having to keep a smirk about their injury list. I think it is this silly attitude is the difference between an all-weather champion and a wannabe.

tough game either way but we can beat anyone in the world on our day! and well what better day than when chelsea come to town! they are knowone and we shall show them what it feels like to be humiliated!
