WHITBREAD JOINS MILLWALL
Steve Hunter 13 June 2006
Zak Whitbread has completed a permanent move to League One side Millwall after a successful loan spell at the New Den last season.
The American born centre half made six appearances for Liverpool's first team and was a regular during the Carling Cup run in 2004, when he helped the team to memorable victories over Millwall, Middlesbrough and Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Liverpool midfielder and Lions boss Nigel Spackman swooped to make the move permament, and Whitbread has signed a two-year deal with the London club as they aim to bounce back to the Championship following relegation last season.

Good to see that Rafa is moving on the players who won't make the grade. He never really played much but looked good during a carling cup campaign.

Good luck to him :)

not sure if we've got much money for him, but apparently we do have a hefty sell on fee should he make good.

Not a bad player, he'll certainly make a good career at a championship club anyway.  Not really going to get a chance at LFC now though, with Agger and Paletta as well as our established centre backs all ahead of him.  Don't rule Whitbread out as emerging as a premiership player somewhere down the line though, he looked decent enough the few times I saw him play.

I was hopeful for a while that maybe he could fill Hypia's shoes.  But then i realised that the only thing he had in common was the fact that he was tall and blonde.  Just not good enough for one of the big clubs
Well done Rafa, glad to see that he is not letting mediocre players earn easy wages for just sitting on the fringe,  its bad for them and the club.

He wasn't very strong in the air, and that's a rel problem at our level.

Glad Rafa has f*cked him off.

No point in sentiment when the plain truth is he wasn't going to make the grade.
