Steve McClaren has admitted that his move to sign Emile Heskey looks destined to end in failure.

Mail The Liverpool Journo

The Middlesbrough boss is eager to sign a striker during the mid-season transfer window, and identified the Liverpool man as his number one target.

However, after making an enquiry for the former Leicester City star, McClaren isn’t optimistic that a deal can be struck.

"I have seen what has been said at Liverpool but we did have talks and an enquiry was made," he said. "However, they don't want to sell him and that looks like that is that with that one.”[/I]

I would have sold him if the price was right.

Only a lunatic or a foreign club would offer anything near what we paid for Heskey. I would accept anything between £5m and £7m, more if anyone is stupid enough to offer it. Heskey is probably as good as he was when he signed but his value has decreased because he has gotten older and his potential has not been fulfilled and he can no longer be considered as a young developing player

i read somewhere he wants to recoup 11 million quid paid for heskey. I DON"T THINK ANYONE IN THE RIGHT MIND WILL PAY THAT SUM FOR THE BEST DAMN DEFENSIVE STRIKER I HAVE EVER SEEN.

And 1 more thing, Happy Lunar New Year Chinesegal.........

I would be delighted if we could get £5 million for Heskey. Crazy thing is he will probably end up somewhere Middlesborough or Southampton scoring 15-20 goals a season an we wil all be saying 'why didn't he do that before!'
:D

Heskey is an enigma to me I really believe he is a very talented player.  I think Houlier is the wrong manager for him.  If he did play in a better system with a more talented manager he will score more goals.  I would'nt sell anyone but Biscan, Vignal and Xavier the rest should be kept until assessed by a real manager.

Heskey was a good player when he had a good manager working with him. O'Neill at Leicester.

i'm not sure Oneil managed to get more than 12 goals in a season out of Heskey. Still i'd welcome Oneil to give it another try!

Another manager could work wonders with Emile.

Let's hope that theory is tested - soon!
