Benitez agrees terms for Luis Figo

Interesting.

Yesterday I heard from a reliable source that Shaun Wright Philips was in talks with Liverpool, but once the Gerrard money was not going to be available, it looks like Chelsea are going to sign him.

So we save £14 million on proven talent, a former World Player of the Year.  Hardly a big dent in the budget is it?  £2 million will do for me if Figo signs for us.  With Benitez being the man manager he is, I wouldn't expect Figo to be calling the shots like the way he did at Real Madrid.  He will have no chance.  Benitez will spell this out to him.

If he signs, he will be in our world.  One last push for Figo.  Echoes of Gary McAllister.

If he signs, lets hope he's as sucessful.

I see Madrid are trying to get a fee.  Probably because they've ripped us off that many times in the past they're trying to once agin.

Says Figo is livid. :D

The saga continues......

Thats interesting........so long as he doesn't expect a huge amount of money.

There will probably be a get out clause after a year for both parties if it doesn't go according to plan.

I also see the Echo is reporting that Benitez will pip Everton for Sissoko.

This Figo thing is exactly what happened with Litmanen. Jari had an agreement with Barca he could go for free. They backtracked, he threatened to sue them and we got our man. Hopefuly Figo has some sort of proof of his agreement and the same will happen again.

As for this Sissoko fella, do we really need another central midfielder? ???

no to sissoko. if everton were going to get him then he must be bad! we dont need another central midfielder at the club, unless its aimar. im a no for sissoko, we can get better players in different positions than him. the thing is the echo always seems to be right whatever it writes, i hope its wrong about sissoko this time

Trouble is......Figo is over the hill, showed signs of it in Euro 2004.
He aint gonna get better in a more physically demandng league at 32/33.

I say.....stay away!

Figo, even at 2mil, at 32, past his best and on high wages, I'd still take him.

Even if we get one good season out of him he's worth that IMO.  We badly need a right winger, and lets face it, we can't afford SWP or Joaquin

Yes we certainly do need another central midfielder as Biscan has gone and Diao is on his way out. I know Zenden is there to provide cover but Sissoko is young and apparently very versatile, being able to play at right back and even up front.

I remember him 2 or 3 years ago at Auxerre, where he was highly rated and for a while Houllier was linked to him (as well as Lyon's Michael Essien, who was at Bastia at the time). Benitez, yes, our Rafa, beat Houllier to sign him for Valencia.

Obviously Rafa still rates the lad and thats still good enough for me.

Not sure about Figo but defo dont think we should pay money...he is available on a free, every time we get linked with a player...the fee gets bumped up.
If its for free an he's taking a decent cut...then i trust rafa can make it work, but his attitude has to be right.

who says we cant afford sean-wright phillips?

we just won CL and have some dosh to splash out.

if rafa says 2/3 players are coming this week, must be money there.

No one knows how much we do have exactly.

ooh i forgot about us selling biscan and diao goin to leave. ok maybe we do need some cover in central midfield then. youve made me do a u-turn. ok as long as rafa rates sissoko get him in, i fully trust rafa and if he thinks sissoko will do well then ok get him

Mate, as much as I'd like to agree with you, I honestly don't think we can get SWP.  For a start we can't outbid chelsea.

And even without considering chelsea, it'll take at least 20mil for man city to accept a bid.  The fact we are only taking players for small transfer fees tells me there is not as much cash to splash as some people on here think
