morning guys.

as i'm sure you're all aware, this is a very important day for lfc with regards to our possible participation in next seasons champions league. of course there are several rumours flying around already but an official announcement will be made at 12.00 BST today.

i think it would therefore be beneficial if i started this thread, pinned it, and called it the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DECISION REACTION THREAD, for people to post all their thoughts as to the decision that UEFA make.

otherwise we'll have 20 new threads started all saying the same thing (we still probably will knowing some people on here).

cheers.

It's good to know that we'll be able to defend, even from the first round of qualifiers.
UEFA couldn't make another decision.

Let's make it 2 in a row. :D

Hmmm, its gonna be a huge fixture headache? We were due to have pre season in Japan and now we have to play the first CL qualifying round in some Eastern Europe country. Now what can we do? Cancel Japan trip? Boycott CL?

2006 will be the year when a team from the first qualifying round of the Champions League actually wins the thing.

Hey LeeJ, we won't see fEuvcekritnogn in the CL. They'll be off at the qualifiers and that will be their big European trip :D

Man I hope that they'd be matched with Polish champion, we'd finally have a chance for a Polish team to get to group stage  :wwww We haven't been there for years.
Please Let Everton be drawn out with WK :)

Liverpool allowed to defend title
Friday, 10 June 2005
The UEFA Champions League holders Liverpool FC will compete in next season's UEFA Champions League first qualifying round.

Right to defend
The UEFA Executive Committee decided to amend the regulations for the future editions of the Champions League, so that the holders will have the right to defend their title and therefore qualify automatically. At the same time, the number of clubs allowed per national association will remain stable based on coefficient ranking.

Exceptional decision
Exceptionally, for the upcoming season, the Executive Committee today decided to allow the current Champions League holders to defend their title. The UEFA Executive Committee also decided that:

- Liverpool would enter the competition in the first qualifying round, to be played on 12/13 and 19/20 July, with the draw taking place on 24 June.
- There will be no country protection for Liverpool.
- Liverpool will be included in the English market pool share with the status of lowest-placed English club.

Just a thought having read the above from UEFA - is it worth us being in it? Does this mean we are not seeded?

Think this raises more questions than answers.

PS Odds on playing Everton - reckon its guaranteed.
