I know it's about a player leaving but:

Skysports.com can confirm Hearts are chasing Liverpool striker Neil Mellor.

The SPL hopefuls have made enquiries about Mellor and Liverpool have given him permission to talk to Hearts.

Hearts are keen to bolster their squad as they look to sustain their title challenge and Jambos boss Graham Rix is believed to be a big admirer of Mellor.

Mellor is well down the pecking order at Liverpool and has not featured for the first team since last January.

The 23-year-old has only recently returned to action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines and he has impressed in a few run-outs in the reserves.

Hearts are now hoping to lure the forward to Tynecastle after being given the green light to talk to Mellor.

The player's agent confirmed Mellor was set to hold talks with Hearts and that a number of other clubs were chasing the prolific striker.

Wolves, Stoke and Sheffield United are all thought to be trailing Mellor and the player is keeping his options open.

"Hearts are very interested in Neil and they have spoken to Liverpool about him," McGuire told skysports.com.

"I spoke to Rick Parry and Liverpool have given Neil permission to speak to Hearts about a potential move.

"Neil is keeping an open mind on his future and he is happy to go up and talk to Hearts.

"There has been interest from several other clubs and Neil is weighing up his options and he is not ruling out staying at Liverpool as he still has a contract there."

not heard of this diana guy before but guessing he cannot be all that if at the age of 28 he is still on the fringes of the national side. of course its not clear how much we'd ever pay for him but does not seem like the long term answer just a fill-in who presumably would not be cuptied for europe either

"We need to fortify the centre of the defence and we are considering four or five options," Benitez told La voz de Galicia.

Coloccini is thought to be keen on a move away from Deportivo having fallen out with coach Joaquin Caparros.

Liverpool could also face competition for Cesar with Bolton believed to be keen on signing the defender.

Nope, he's a CB.

From sky sports

Sevilla winger Daniel Alves has expressed his dismay at being denied a dream move to Liverpool.

The European champions had a recent €12 million (£8 million) bid for the Brazilian rejected by his Spanish club.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez is still trying to reinforce the right side of his midfield and Alves is high on his list of targets.

With Sevilla reluctant to lose Alves, Benitez may now switch his sights elsewhere before the transfer window closes.

The situation has exasperated Alves, who readily acknowledges his desire to play for a major club.

"It is true," said Alves of Liverpool's reported bid.

"I know of Liverpool's interest, and that of other European clubs, but it all depends on Sevilla.

"I am an ambitious person and, although I am happy in Sevilla, my objective is to play for a great club to help me be with the Brazil team.

"My dream is to play with la canarinha (Brazilian national team) and in a World Cup.

"No director from Liverpool has spoken with me, but I am happy because a European champion is a great club."

Sevilla's president Jose Maria Del Nido conceded it would take more than Liverpool's original offer to prise Alves away from the club.

Del Nido commented: "Daniel has a major price."

Might be Benitez playing games with Bronby so they stop raising the price of Agger!

Could be, you never know but Benitez usually does not mention names unless he intends to sign the players.

From the Daily Post:

RAFAEL BENITEZ has sent a clear message to Brondby that he will not be held to ransom over Daniel Agger - as Sevilla winger Daniel Alves claimed he was being denied a move to Anfield.

Talks between Liverpool and Brondby have been ongoing for several days, with the clubs still at loggerheads over the value of centre-back Agger.

Brondby have slapped a £7million tag on the 21-year-old, while Benitez is willing to offer up to £5.5m for a player who is out of contract in 18 months.

Agger remains the Anfield manager's first choice defensive reinforcement and would prefer a move to the European Champions, despite claimed interest from a number of other Premiership clubs as well as Juventus and Bayern Munich.

And while Liverpool are confident of encouraging Brondby to lower their asking price, Benitez has signalled his willingness to pursue other defensive targets by confirming an interest in Deportivo La Coruna pair Fabricio Coloccini and Cesar.

"We need to fortify the centre of the defence and we are considering four or five options," said Benitez. "We had ideas in the summer and we are thinking now in the same way.

"We have targeted Coloccini and Cesar of Deportivo La Coruna and we are just about to obtain if they want to sell."

Argentina international Coloccini is keen to depart Deportivo after having seen his first-team opportunities limited following a fall-out with coach Joaquin Caparros.

The 23-year-old centre-back has previously expressed a desire to join Liverpool, who are prepared to offer £2.9million (4m euros).

Spanish defender Cesar is out of contract at the end of the season and would be available for a nominal fee. The 28-year-old has attracted attention from Bolton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur and Villarreal in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Sevilla right winger Alves has claimed Liverpool are attempting to sign him.

The Brazilian, who can also play at right-back, was one of several players Benitez assessed over the summer for a possible move.

Now reports in Spain suggest the Anfield manager is ready to renew his interest in the 22-year-old, who holds Spanish citizenship and would not require a work permit.

"It is true," said £8million-rated Alves. "I know of Liverpool's interest, and that of other European clubs, but it all depends on Sevilla.

"I am an ambitious person and, although I am happy in Sevilla, my objective is to play for a great club to help me be with the Brazil team.

"My dream is to play for Brazil and in a World Cup. No director from Liverpool has spoken with me, but I am happy (with their interest) because a European champion is a great club."

Apparently Spurs have entered the race for Agger and are willing to meet the £7m price set by Brondby. Agger has spoken of his desire to come to the Premiership and LFC so let's see how things pan out...

Will he bdig his heels in and demand a move to Liverpool or will he go with the money as I can bet that Spurs will offer more in wages as well!!

Time will tell

Also if Spurs do sign Agger then I would throw Cisse at them (if they are still interested) with either King or more likely Dawson coming to Anfield.

As I just said in the "Daniel Agger"-thread - LFC has bought him now!

It hasen't been confirmed yet, but it should be a done deal. There is an agreement between the two clubs on a transfer on 5.5m£ plus a part of a possible transfer from Liverpool.

Don't know when it is going public, but as I said: It is over.

(And yes, 5.8 is probably correct, I haven't done my math-homework for a while...)
