The Kompany story is around on a few sites

QUOTE

Those who believe that Rafa Benitez will be making low key signings are mistaken. He will bring in two massive talents in January who are very familiar. I know as i work very closely with the team. We are currently tracking Belgian wonderkid Vincent Kompany who is at Anderlecht. We met his agent in Japan on Friday and a £9 million move for the centre back will go ahead on January 3rd.

Following the purchase of the defender, Rick Parry has given sufficient funds to bring preferably Joaquin to Anfield. We very secretely met his agent in the past and the Spanish winger is all for a move to Liverpool. A £10 million fee will be enough to lure the Spaniard to the Merseyside. However as make way, Djibril Cisse will leave for around £8 million, Jerzy Dudek for £3 million and Josemi for £2 million.

Rick Parry will be able to make around £10 million available this transfer window. Benitez also has back up targets this time around and Simao is one of them and if possible for a reasonable fee may arrive as well as Joaquin and Kompany. Benitez is looking at another striker but may have to wait for the Summer when he will try and attempt a ?12 million bid for Michael Owen.

END QUOTE

QUOTE

Wigan want to take Florent Sinama Pongolle on loan from Liverpool for the rest of the season and Rafael Benitez is happy to let the young Frenchman leave the club, only on loan.

END QUOTE

QUOTE

Ive heard from a reliable source that an agent from Eleven-11-sportmanagement has flown out to Japan to hold talks with Liverpool. The two players being discussed are Vincent Kompany and someone called Yves Makab-Makalamby. 100% true

Not a rumour but instead something I would love to see...

Henrik Larrson at Anfield. A short-term fix but I am convinced he would do a great job us. Playing on the shoulder of the last defender, picking up knockdowns from Morientes and/or Crouch!!! He is unhappy with the amount of football he is playing at Barca and is looking to make an impact in the World Cup. He may be cup-tied for Europe thats the only thing.

I have to say that I am delighted with the fact we are being linked with young players all the time. Very rarely do you hear of Rafa scouting some 27-30+ player. It's always a "promising" teenager (i.e. Kompany/Onuaha) or some 20-25 yr old player with undoubted ability maybe playing in the wrong environment/team (i.e. Joaquin).

Gone quiet on the Kuyt front. Not overly keen on the guy to be honest. Would have preferred Pienaar but looks like he has gone to Germany!!

I am sure Rafa has it in hand. I look forward to January. Tidy up squad with some going out (Dudek, Josemi) and some big names coming in!!!

i'm not sure if kuyt is the sort of player we need at the moment. we need an out and out poacher. kuyt is an excellent player but he likes to come deep and link in with the play all the time. yes he's scored 50 goals or something in the last few seasons but that guarantees nothing. the dutch league is a shadow of the league over here.

if he comes to england, no doubt the likes of davids and robben will be having a quiet word with him about the benefits of living in london.

Looks like hes on his way to Spurs TBH the Feyenoord fans are going ballistic over him the last few games hes really not playing well.
I think he is feeling the same way as Gerrard was last season with us when he was about to leave.
The Feyenoorders are convinced he is going to Spurs in January.?
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

That's not a bad shout at all.  I have no doubt Larsson would do the business for half a season for us.  Cisse will definitely go, and if it's in January then we need to bring someone else in.  Obviously we should be looking at a more permanent replacement first, but it can be hard to get top players in mid-season, Larsson on loan til the end of the season could be a shrewd signing.  To be honest though I can't see Benitez going for it.

Just seen this on sky sports website

Michael Owen has played down speculation suggesting he could return to Liverpool during the summer.

It has been mooted that a clause has been inserted into the Newcastle United star's contract stipulating that The Reds may take up an option to re-sign him at the end of this season.

Having joined the Geordies in a £17 million deal from Real Madrid in August, reports coming from the North East have asserted that the England man could return to his former club for a knockdown fee of £12.5 million.

But Owen, who will return to Anfield in a playing capacity for the first time on Boxing Day, has joined Newcastle in refuting the claims, saying: "I signed a four-year contract with Newcastle and I'm very pleased with that decision.

"When I joined Newcastle we were second bottom and I came prepared for a fight. Fortunately, things have improved since then."

Boodiddy - your shout on BenHaim is a good one. He is highly rated and would be a good addition to the squad. Kompany would be my 1st choice though. Younger and easier to mould into what Rafa wants.

I agree with John Craig also that it's unlikey Rafa would go for a short term fix with Larsson. You never know though. He did it with the haddy CH from Valencia last January!!!   ???
