I'd be surprised if the Middlesboro stories are not utter b0ll0cks TBH but FWIW I do actually think Queudrue is a good player who is too good for Middlesboro.

Liverpool could rival Chelsea for the signature of Anderlecht youngster Vincent Kompany.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho is a keen admirer of the 19-year-old and the Premiership champions have been monitoring his progress for some time.

The likes of Arsenal, Barcelona, Real Madrid and, more recently, Internazionale have all been interested in the highly-rated young defender.

Chelsea have been the most serious candidates of late, with Belgian side Anderlecht admitting that a deal could be sorted out soon.

Kompany has said that he would favour a move to England or Spain, and now European champions Liverpool have him in their sights.

Rafa Benitez knows he has to strengthen his squad in January, and wants some top-class cover at centre half for Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher.

Reports in Belgium say that Anfield scouts will watch Anderlecht's UEFA Champions League clash with Real Betis on Tuesday to check out Kompany in action.

Liverpool and Chelsea are in the same Champions League group as the Belgians, but Kompany missed out on the two games against The Reds through injury.

It is rumoured that Liverpool have made a £3m bid for the young Argentine defender, who currently plays for Banfield in his homeland. He's 19, he helped Argentina to the World Youth Championship and more importantly, if he signed in January he would be able to play in the CL.

Sounds promising, i wouldn't say no. (source: ssn.com)
:)

I've seen him play a couple times for Banfield, but I didn't pay much attention to him. The thing I noticed most is that he's good getting forward, not really his overall defensive game. Can't comment much about that. I think that's an inflated price tag, though.

Having seen Lugano play a few times and knowing his  reputation within Brazil and South America, I would love it if Liverpool signed him. He's fairly young, strong, great in the air, reads the game fairly well. Would be an excellent signing, I think. Not just saying that because he's Uruguayan also.   :D  Francescoli was Uruguayan, big mick. You are correct, btw.

It's nice to see Rafa taking an interest in South American players. He said he would work-out the scouting situation there, and it seems to be coming along.

I've just had a terrible thought. After the absolute joy of Man Ush***d i have just been brought back down to earth with the thought that now, maybe Simao won't want to leave Benfica till the summer :( . What do you think?

Tottenham have reportedly made a cheeky bid of 5m for Cisse.

I'm thinking a swap deal for Defoe perhaps? 'Cos there is no way they will let go of King. But...you never know!

King for Cisse deffo, but not likely :(
Defoe is selfish and not really a team player, dont think Rafa would want him.

I would pay take Defoe for Cisse and offer Spurs a couple of mill as well if a deal was possible.

Defoe seems a bit selfish and has the attitude but he is a top striker...and alongside Crouch could improve our forward line so much.

He reminds me of Ian Wright with his style and temperament...would love him at Liverpool...and imo he is on a different level to Cisse.

I agree with Ace - Defoe would add another dimension to our attack. he has similar pace to Cisse, better movement, is far more clever and also is a quality, quality finisher!!

I have my doubts that Simao will come in Jan now that Benfica have qualified for the last 16 of the CL. The past 2 years have seen massive outsiders win the tournament. Maybe he sees Benfica as this years outsiders who win the CL.........!!! You never know.

Tbh i would be shocked if Jol even considered letting Defoe go, he is a natural goal scorer that will score against even the best opposition.

If they are seriously sniffing round Cisse though, then someone will be going....i would take Keane rather than Cisse as well.

We need players who keep position and attacks flowing, Cisse can not do the basics and i would take either of the Tottenham pair if a swap was offered (Defoe if there was an option)

I agree with you there , its quite possible that it may force Raffa,s hand and go full steam for Jaquin because of Benfica qualifying .
Jaquin is unhappy about not being in Europe and being in mid table ...............and of course its strongly rumoured he wants to leave  Real Betis . It also helps of course that he is mates with Alonso and Garcia ............but i digress  :eyebrow

God Warnocks still bloody sniffing round for Mellor :D

9 December 2005
FOOTBALL SPY: MELLOR IS NO.1 FOR WARNOCK
SHEFFIELD United boss Neil Warnock wants to sign a new striker, with Liverpool's Neil Mellor top of his hit list.

Warnock tried to sign Mellor last season but failed with a £700,000 bid although he is refusing to give up hope of bringing the Anfield frontman to Bramall Lane. He is also keen on Ade Akinbiyi and Lee Trundle.
