Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

The only way Rafa can get him is if he convinces the player to only negotiate with/come to us. Valencia obviously want a bidding war so we would have no chance in that. But for maybe £22Mil I think Rafa might try.

I'd love to get Silva. Maybe they'd take Babel? I reckon that could get the fee down to £15m-ish, which would be well worth it for a player of his quality. Of course, a right winger should be a priority, I think, so maybe we should be going after someone like Santi Cazorla, Jesus Navas or Kuba instead. Then again, if there really is a chance of getting Silva, I'd be gutted if we didn't go in for him...

If he had less injuries I would buy Dean Ashton in a heart beat ,when fit one of the most complete all round players ive seen and is skilful on the ground as well as seriously good in the air ..
Lets face it I seriously doubt Liverpool will have enough money to buy another 20 million plus striker ,just being practical

I don't think Navas will ever leave Sevilla

LIVERPOOL TARGET £20M JOHNSON

Sunday April 12,2009
By John Richardson

LIVERPOOL and Manchester City are ready to make £20million bids for Portsmouth duo Glen Johnson and Peter Crouch.

With Pompey owner Alexandre Gaydamak strapped for cash and looking to sell, it means that the club will struggle to resist big offers for their main stars.

Sunday Express Sport can reveal that Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is ready to pay up to £20million for England right-back Johnson.

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes, meanwhile, is poised to move in with the same money for striker Crouch, despite his interest in Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz.

With the Arab millions at their disposal, there is nothing to stop City snapping up both of them. City believe Crouch has the greater experience and would be tempted by City’s plans and a huge pay packet.

Liverpool could have to sell highly-rated central defender Daniel Agger in the summer with the Dane becoming
increasingly frustrated at the lack of progress over a new contract.

His current deal has just 12 months to run and he admitted: “In my heart I hope I will still be at Liverpool next season but I don’t know. And I don’t know if my contract will be sorted before the end of the season.”

I don't think he is Johnson is worth 20Mil but I would like him in our squad.

More to the point, Rafa would not pay £20m on one right back (unless, maybe, it was Dani Alves). He sure as hell isn't enough of an idiot to value Glen Johnson that highly!

Fu.ck right off.

20 million for Glen Johnson??

I wouldn't pay 5 million for him to be honest. Flatters to deceive imo.  Can look good coming forward, but defensively he makes too many mistakes and when he has pressure on him to perform at a higher level (ie for England, or when he was at Chelsea) he can't deliver.

He has found his level and should stay there.

When Chavski and Citeh are in the running there is no such thing as 'a bit much'. If we have half a sniff at 25 million euros, snap him up before Citeh offer 80 million !

I read this article somehere else and i think this journalist got it mixed up(like that's never happened before) i'm pretty sure it's Johnson and Crouchy together for 20mil, definately something worth considering i think.

I like the look of this, seems like a step up from Lucas anyway.

I know Rafa's been looking at Martinez for a couple of years now as he's one of the hottest prospects in spanish footy. Whether we'd get him for just £6 million though is doubtful, I'm sure that was the figure quoted when he fisrt broke into the Bilbao team and I'd fully expect there to be at least double that fee quoted now.

The story of Crouch & Johnson for £20m confuses me really, we know what Crouch can do and we know that Rafa didn't want him to go last summer it was Crouchie himself, for that reason I can't really see him wanting to come back to warm our bench again.
The Johnson one would purely just be from an English quota perspective surely as never ina month of Sundays is he a better RB than Arbeloa. He might be a bit more convincing going forward but that is massivley out weighed by his defensive short comings.

I wouldn't go much above £16-17m for the pair.

Thats along similar lines to what Rafa said about Lucas and see what we've got there!!!  ???

TBH though what I've seen of Martinez he's miles better than Lucas.

Yeah true about the Lucas thing Rushie, i think Lucas could actually be a very good player but just not in the premiership, he's too lightweight whereas Martinez is already 6'3 and looks like a big strong lad, perfect build for our league. there's not much videos of him on youtube but this one in particular strikes me as very Gerrardesque!
