Another 'quoteless' article to place under the heading..'dubious'

EXCLUSIVE Liverpool want Hammers' flop Mascherano
By Steve Stammers And Paul Smith
LIVERPOOL are poised to make a January transfer window move for West Ham misfit Javier Mascherano.
The Argentine international midfielder joined West Ham with compatriot Carlos Tevez in the most controversial deal of the August transfer window.
But he has failed to make an impact and with the club now under the ownership of Icelander Eggert Magnusson, Mascherano could be on the move.
His future at West Ham would have been more secure had the consortium headed by Iranian-born businessman Kia Joorabchian won control at Upton Park.
But with Magnusson now in charge, both of the Argentines are concerned about their futures - and Liverpool are keen to sign Mascherano.
Anfield boss Rafa Benitez's midfield options have been hit by a spate of injuries to Boudewijn Zenden, Momo Sissoko and Xavi Alonso.
Mascherano would jump at the chance to join Liverpool after a miserable four months at Upton Park.
It has been suggested that because of a FIFA ruling limiting the number of moves a player can make in a 12- month year to two, neither Mascherano nor Tevez could leave West Ham next month.
But if their contracts were cancelled to make the players free agents, nothing could stop them joining another club.
However, West Ham would have to pay Tevez and Mascherano £2million to terminate their contracts at Upton Park.
The figure was written into the initial agreement brokered by the club in the summer.
The arrival of new owner Eggert Mangnusson, who completed his £98million takeover last weekend, could still bring down the curtain on their brief career at the East End club once the transfer window re-opens next month.
Joorabchian Last week met Hammers boss Alan Pardew to discuss the players' future. Pardew believes they are both settling in to life in England and hopes they have a future at Upton Park.
The two players, who arrived as part of the failed takeover of the club by Joorabchian, have pleaded for a stay of execution.
But while they are winning the support of the manager, they need to convince Magnusson, and his Icelandic consortium, that it is a wise move to keep Joorabchian's investment at the club.
Magnusson is looking to initiate a rebuilding programme at the club by handing Pardew extensive funds.
