Hamburg ready to move for Biscan

Mar 15 2005

By David Prior Daily Post Staff

Igor Biscan in training

HAMBURG are lining up a summer move for Liverpool midfielder Igor Biscan, according to the player's agent.

The 26-year-old is out of contract at Anfield at the end of this season and has so far failed to hold down a regular role in Rafael Benitez's plans.

And Biscan's agent, Gordon Stipic, has now revealed the German club's interest as the Croatian considers his options with just two months of the season remaining.

"I know that Hamburg are thinking about him," revealed Stipic.

"In the next two or three weeks things could become more concrete, but first we will have to talk to Liverpool about Igor's future."

Hamburg coach Thomas Doll watched Biscan in both Champions League encounters against Bayer Leverkusen, with the club's director of football Dietmar Beiersdorfer joining Doll for the second leg at the BayArena.

Biscan played for 90 minutes in both victories and excelled, just as he had earlier in the season in Deportivo La Coruna.

He is the second Liverpool player currently being monitored by Hamburg, with Dietmar Hamann having been on the Bundesliga side's wishlist for months.

Midfielder Hamann is also out of contract at the end of the current campaign and, like Biscan, is yet to discover where his future lies.

Talks over Hamann's future have been put on hold until next month, but it is thought the 31-year-old's recent form will be enough to convince Benitez to offer him at least a one-year extension.

Whether the club will offer any kind of new deal to Biscan, however, is uncertain.

Despite his form in the Champions League, the midfielder has made only fleeting appearances in the Premiership and has failed to deliver a consistent level of performance.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United are all ready to hand Emre Belozoglu the chance to play in England next season.
The player has confirmed he is leaving Internazionale in the summer with The Premiership and La Liga his two preferred destinations.
The 24-year-old is not yet ready to move back to his native Turkey and his agent has admitted to skysports.com that England is where he wants to be.
"I have told the Nerazzurri's officials that I'll leave in June because I want to play in another country," Emre told Lig TV.
"I don't want to come back to Turkey. I've received many offers both from Spain and England and I hope to go in one of those countries.
"I have another two years' contract with Inter, but I hope there won't be problems."
Both Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson are known to be long-term admirers of the diminutive Turk - who arrived at Inter in a £5 million treble deal which also saw Okan Buruk and Hakan Sukur transfer from Galatasaray.
Liverpool were also interested when Gerard Houllier was in charge and now it can be revealed that Rafa Benitez made a move for Emre in January - which confirms his interest.
While his fellow countrymen failed to find their feet in Serie A, Emre has flourished and shown what an adept player he is.
However, despite having two years left on his current deal - he is now ready to move on.
His agent Ahmet Bulut - who in November told skysports.com that Emre would quit Inter this summer - has again confirmed his client is looking to move.
Bulut still feels that England is the most likely destination for Emre.
"Emre wants to leave at the end of the season," he told skysports.com.
"I am now waiting for the offers and expect to receive them over the next few weeks.
"We expect that only the top clubs in England could afford Emre's salary and we know there has been a lot interest there.
"Liverpool tried for him during the transfer window, so that is something we may look at again - but we are still looking at the offers."

I saw him on TV, he's very influential during the World CUp and was associated to Maradona from turkey. Very strong in midfield both in defending and attacking. He's a scoring mid as well. No surprise when inter bought him from galatasaray for some massive cash, but his performance now has dramatically been decreasing since two recent years.

I would think twice before bringing him in to anfield.

KEWELL'S A TARGET FOR SPURS

Mar 20 2005

By Paul Smith

LIVERPOOL will ditch Harry Kewell in the summer following a series of rows over his form and fitness.

The Australian midfielder is being tracked by Martin Jol at Tottenham and is also interesting Manchester City and Southampton.

Kewell has rarely rediscovered the form that prompted a stampede for his signature when he left Leeds two seasons ago.

Hampered by a string of niggling injuries and loss of form, Kewell's latest rows with Reds boss Rafael Benitez are likely to be his last.

He was stunned when Benitez recently claimed his injury status changed daily when he declined to travel with the Liverpool squad for the Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen.

The 26-year-old immediately launched a broadside claiming the comments were ludicrous.

Kewell has played just 25 competitive games for Liverpool and limped out of their Carling Cup Final defeat by Chelsea.

Specialists have advised him not to play again this season in a bid to overcome a groin problem.

That being the case, it is unlikely Kewell will pull on a red shirt again with Liverpool ready to give him a free transfer.

Vignal's Rangers talks break down

Mar 22 2005

Liverpool Echo

Gregory Vignal in action against Ajax

GREGORY VIGNAL could be heading back to Anfield after talks with Rangers broke down.

The Liverpool defender's loan deal ends in the summer and he was keen to extend his stay at Ibrox.

It is believed he was offered a three-year deal by chief executive Martin Bain but the player was far from impressed by the terms on offer.

His agent Philippe Flavier said: "There has been no progress at all. I think the talks have come to a full stop.

"We met with Martin Bain today for the second time and there was no movement.

"We are both very disappointed because he loves playing for Rangers and is very happy with the coach but we have no choice.

"Now I will work with other interests because we have time before May.

"It is not a good ending to a weekend that brought a cup win but Gregory still has a league championship to win and will do his best."

Diarra not looking for Liverpool return
14:39 March, 22, 2005
Alou Diarra isn’t keen on returning to Liverpool in the summer.

The midfielder is currently on loan with French club Lens, where he is having a fine season, and a return to Merseyside is not on his agenda for next season.

"I have found a well-balanced life here," the 23-year-old said. "Lens are ambitious and it is due to this club that I have become an international player. Perhaps an agreement can be found between Liverpool and Racing. I hope so because it would be sad not to be a part of this adventure."

Diarra joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2002 yet never really settled, and since his move to Lens he has broken into the French national squad.

FOOTBALL: HERR-Y KEWELL

Germany calling for Kop flop

By Lee West

BAYERN Munich are planning a move for Liverpool's Harry Kewell.

The German Champions League quarter-finalists have been watching with interest as Kewell's relationship with manager Rafael Benitez has hit rock-bottom.

Now they are preparing a summer bid for the Aussie international.

Kop flop Kewell arrived at Anfield in controversial circumstances following a £5million deal from Leeds in July 2003.

But the cash-strapped Yorkshire club were forced to pay £2m of that to Kewell's agent to ensure the deal did not collapse.

Now it looks as if he is going to leave under a cloud of controversy just two years into a five-year deal, with Liverpool willing to let him go for just £2.5m.

Kewell, 26, has been out of action since hobbling out of the Carling Cup Final defeat by Chelsea earlier this month with a string of niggling groin, hamstring, Achilles and ankle injuries.

His inaction has sparked a war of words with Benitez who hinted that the injuries were made up, saying: "One day Harry is OK and the next day he says he is unfit."

The comments incensed the Socceroo who hit back at his Spanish boss, claiming: "For anybody to say that I'm putting on an act is plain ridiculous and wrong."

Whether Kewell's injuries are real or not, one thing is certain - his days at Liverpool are numbered and Bayern are waiting to pounce.

They see Kewell as a possible replacement for left winger Ze Roberto, who seems certain to leave in the summer.

The Brazilian international is out of contract at the end of the season and the new deal Bayern have offered him is less than his current one.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and general manager Uli Hoeness have started sounding out potential replacements and Kewell is top of their list. Rummenigge did not wish to comment on his interest in Kewell at this stage, saying: "There is no answer to this question at this moment.

"We will be discussing these things in the next month and will not comment on speculation at this time." But it is understood that Bayern have made polite inquiries about Kewell's availability.

Kewell was recently in Munich to see world renowned physio Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt, who is also employed by Bayern, in a last desperate bid to solve his frustrating injury problems.

The only stumbling block to a move could be Kewell's wage demands - he is currently on £60,000 per week - as the Bavarian giants will not pay over the odds for a player whose career has gone backwards since arriving from Leeds two seasons ago.

PLAYERS WHO HAVE MADE IT IN GERMANY

KEVIN KEEGAN Left Liverpool in 1977 to join SV Hamburg. Twice European Footballer of the Year.

MARK HUGHES Loaned out by Barcelona. Big hit for Bayern Munich in 1988.

PAUL LAMBERT Left Motherwell for Borussia Dortmund in 1996. Won the Champions League within a year.

ALAN McINALLY Two successful seasons with Bayern Munich after £900,000 move from Aston Villa.

From sky sports:

Newcastle United have emerged as contenders to sign Gregory Vignal.
The French star has had a very successful season on loan at Rangers from Liverpool and is now attracting a great deal of interest.
Rangers had hoped to seal a permanent deal for the left sided ace, but they failed to agree personal terms.
Now Vignal is on the lookout for a new club, having accepted some time ago that his Anfield career was over.
Now Newcastle and Marseille are believed to be leading the race for Vignal, who has also shown that he is not just a full back during his time at Ibrox.
Lens also have an interest, but they cannot compete with Newcastle or l'OM in terms of wages.
Newcastle boss Graeme Souness is keen to bolster his left-sided options, as Celestine Babayaro and Laurent Robert are the only natural left-footed players pushing for a first team place

Also from sky sports, not sure about this guy myself...

Auxerre schemer Bonaventure Kalou is open to a summer move after being linked with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Reports in France suggest the Premiership pair are considering an attempt to recruit the Ivory Coast international at the end of the season.
Marseille are rumoured to be favourites to secure the playmaker, with a €7 million offer likely to tempt Auxerre coach Guy Roux.
Kalou is under contract at Auxerre until 2008 but has suggested that he is ready to leave the club for a bigger stage.
The 27-year-old is confident he is capable of playing for a larger club and hopes that Auxerre will accept any attractive offer that lands on their desk.
"It is true that I signed a five-year contract when I came to AJA and I still have three years remaining on my contract," Kalou told France Football.
"I respect everyone at the club but let's say Auxerre is a good little club.
"I know I have the ability to reach a higher level. I am convinced I am able to play for any European club.
"If I know a great club want me and the offer is attractive, why not?
"My ambition is to sign for a big team as soon as possible."

I have posted quite a few times about Emre and that I think he would be a great signing for us.

I have seen him play for turkey on numerous occasions and for Inter in the CL and have been quite impressed.

He is quite a small lad, but very strong and physical for his size which will help adapt to the EPL well IMO.

He is also very agile and tricky woth the ball at his feet, and whwn i have seen him play the opposition repeatedsly fouls him as he is able to beat challenges with ease, with his quick feet and low centre of gravity.

His ball ditribution is also good, with a good first touch and he keeps possesion well.

I would definitely urge us to sign him as I think he would do very well here. He is a left footed central midfielder but has played for Inter on the left side of midfield on numerous occasions.

I think the best signing for us (may have been said already but i think hes fantastico) would be shaun wright phillips. hes fast, he can score, hes creative and he plays out wide. I think he would work well with gerrard and garcia, and even Didi! He would be a great addition to the squad.
I also think we should make an attempt to sign carlo cudicini, if we got him that would be amazing. I doubt we would but it would solve our goalkeeping worries, as carson is inexperienced, kirkland is constantly injured and dudek makes too many mistakes.

I think swapping Baros for Vicente would be a great move. don't think we could get SWP. Not sure if we would have the money to compete if MAnure or Chelski want him.
