Ahh yes, but Torres is not a great striker. He is one of the most overrated players in world football. He spends too much time on the ground and his scoring record is poor. IIRC I think sabre said a couple of weeks back that most of his goals are penalty conversions.

I would be bitterly disappointed if we ended up with Torres as our biggest signing.

Yeah mate i agree with you. Sounds silly but altough i dont want Someone like Darren Bent, Id rather have him than Torres. Ballague also said that Torres' armband didnt say youll never walk alone, it said we wont walk alone or something to that affect, and it was a gift, and he just let it slip off him because he knew he was being linked with us. Irrelevent i know but  :D

The irony being that as we slag him off, Torres goes asnd scores for Atletico.  :D

At least we know what to do if we did sign him.......

SLAG HIM OFF

I think a lot of people were wishing for that to happen to C Ronaldo and it didn't happen so I doubt it'd happen this time either.  :D

According to an article in this thread it could be sometime this week. Although the transfer can't officially go through til the 1st June I think so they may keep it under wraps until friday.

According to the echo mancini of roma and a certain carlos tevez are targets for rafa but it all depends on how much we have to spend because combined they could cost 30mil. If we could get these two players and malouda things would improve dramatically on the attacking front i think coz there is plenty of flair with them players. Very exciting so lets hope the owners come up with the cash and parry gets his a.rse into gear.

The sales of a few players like bellamy and kewell should help raise some funds to sign these fellas aswell so fingers crossed ay

Who are the 2 class players that we could sign now. That conment from Rafa has got me thinking. It can't be some one from spain because they are still playing One of them must be Tevez we need him so bad the guy is class and would be great for us.

Might be a re-post this so apolgies if it is .....

PARRY CONFIRMS SIMAO CHASE

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has confirmed the club are still interested in Simao Sabrosa.

The Benfica winger has been a long-term target of Rafa Benitez, and was in fact given permission to fly to Anfield for a medical in August 2005.

On that occasion the Portuguese club pulled out of the £10 million deal, but now it seems that the Champions League finalists are ready to renew their interest in the player.

Furthermore, Parry claimed that a swap deal involving striker Djibril Cisse could be on the cards.

Cisse has spent the season on loan at Marseille, and while he favours a move to either an English or a Spanish club, he may be interested in the switch to Portugal.

Speaking to Portuguese daily A Bola, Parry said: "There are players we are interested in and Simao is one.

"But we have made no contact with Benfica. A swap with Cisse could be a possibility."

Cisse's agent Ranko Stojic refused to rule out the possibility of a move, but claimed that it would not be the striker's first choice.

"Anything is possible but Djibril's priority is to move to a club in either England or Spain who are in the Champions League," Stojic told A Bola.

"Liverpool will not be able to decide Cisse's future without the authorisation of the player."

Cisse joined Liverpool from Auxerre for £14 million in 2004, but spent last season back in France after falling out of favour with Benitez.

He scored eight goals in 21 appearances for Marseille after missing much of the start of the season with a broken leg, sustained playing for France before the World Cup.

No mention of a fee but i reckon as with most of our past enquiries about players the price will mysteriously increase du to the extra funds we now have available  ???

Questioned Sunday by the JDD, Cissé however declared: "Me, I want to remain (to the OM). But I belong in Liverpool and it is well the problem in this history. 12 million euros, it is expensive and that blocks. If the two clubs do not put an agreement, I will be well obliged to return to England. But if Liverpool wants really to release me, as they say it, they will be arranged while being made pay in several times or lending to me again."

I really don't want us to sign Simao although I think Rafa will, I just don't think the lad is worth the £12m+ price tag, he's scored a few free kicks in the CL but I don't think he's an out and out right winger and won't solve any of our problems :(

I don't get this thing with Parry coming out and declaring that 'we're still chasing Simao'. Not only does it alert opposition teams that the player might be available but it will more than likely drive the players price up. There is the possibility that these quotes have been recycled from a previous interview but the other thing that puzzles me no matter when the comments were made is, since when does Liverpool Football Club brazenly advertise what players it is going to target?

Yes there has always been media speculation surrounding us signing certain players but I can't really remember a Liverpool manager sitting in front of a journalist and saying, 'yes we want to sign ......'
To me the Liverpool way has always been for the manager and club to deny whether or not they are after a player or at the very most they would acknowledge that the player was a good one and was one of many being considered. Is that what is going on here but the press twisting it? Possibly. The cynics may even go as far as saying that it some kind of cock-up by Rick Parry or reaction to the supposed pressure he's found himself under in the wake of the ticketing problems and Rafa's 'supposed' public dig at him last week. Whatever it is I still don't understand why the club/Parry would do this.

I still think that it would be a decent signing for sub £10m or a swap involving Cisse but anything more and I just think it could be money down the drain.

Lyon could be set to sign Lille stars Abdul Kader Keita and Mathieu Bodmer, according to reports in France.

L'Equipe believes the French champions are willing to pay €20m (£13.5m) for Ivory Coast midfielder Keita (pictured), who has a €22m (£15m) release clause in his contract.

The newspaper claims the player may have already agreed a four-year deal with the club.

Tottenham are reported to have made a €19million (£13million) bid for the 25-year-old last week, while Liverpool have also apparently been weighing up a bid.

Keita is under contract at Lille until 2010, but is keen to leave as the club has not qualified for Europe.

And versatile midfielder Bodmer, who is under contract until 2011, is also apparently under consideration.

The 24-year-old, who is rumoured to be another target for Liverpool as well as Paris St Germain, could move for around €8m (£5.5m).

I know it is bulsh*t but here it goes.

A romanian journal speaking of Bayern Munchen signings and targets mentions Agger in the latter category.

Source: http://sport.kappa.ro/stiri/si-toni/stire_93036.html

Anyway Bayern had some activity this year in the transfers: Toni, Jansen, Sosa, Robben and allegedly Ribery, Klose, Ze Roberto and Agger.

Maybe they will allow Schweinsteinger to move ?  :grinning:
