Spanish youngster Antonio Barragan has accepted an offer to sign pro forms with Liverpool after baulking at penning his first pro contract at Seville.

Liverpool have agreed to pay Seville a compensation fee for Barragan, though he could have signed for nothing thanks to his amateur status.

Seville director Monchi told his club's website: "We tried everything we could to keep the player,

"But Liverpool have come in and he has chosen them.

"Normally, FIFA rules benefit the club that has developed the player, like Diego Capel, but in this case Liverpool have been able to take him.

"Seville have developed this player from a baby, because we believed in him, but he has believed his advisors and chosen to leave us.

"We couldn't do anything else."

The club's attempts to bring Juan Ugarte to Crewe look to have been successful. Ugarte, who is currently away on holiday, has been subject of interest from a number of clubs including Leeds, Sheff Utd, Cardiff, Oldham and Coventry. However, a number of factors have worked in Crewe's favour as Ugarte has recently bought a £300,000 house in Cheshire and is reluctant to move again. Another factor which has worked in our favour is Ugarte's desire to stay close to his dear friend Xabi Alonso meaning that he has snubbed interest from various clubs largely due to their location.

Despite the widespread interest in the player, it is believed that only two clubs got as far as offering the 5'10 striker a contract. These two clubs are Crewe and Cardiff although despite the fact that Cardiff were offering double the money, Ugarte was rumoured to be ready to spurn the offer from the Bluebirds. However, no such decision was required as common sense prevailed at the FA, (yes, you did just read that correctly) who forced Cardiff to withdraw their offer due to their current inability to regularly pay their players wages.

Last week, Dario faxed him a copy of the contract on offer which Ugarte promised he would sign on return from his holiday, although this was put into jeopardy by late interest from Coventry. However, Coventry boss Micky Adams has since dropped his interest in the striker making our chances of signing him all the more promising. It is rumoured that the striker returned from his holiday on Thursday of last week and he could sign early next week.

Situations similar to this have occured before where a player has said he will sign, such as Aki Rihilati and Tommy Miller, before receiving a more lucrative offer elsewhere and signing there.

Reports from Greece have linked Liverpool with a £1m move for Bolton’s Greek Euro champ Stelios Giannakopoulos. Rafael Benitez needs to improve the depth in his Liverpool squad and bringing in the winger Stelios for small money looks to be a good investment. Stelios is known to be a winger with creativity and a very high work rate. Benitez is rumoured to offer Stelios a two year long contract.

Liverpool who recently learned they are to play the Welsh Champions TNS in the first qualifying round of the Champions League, are set to start their pre-season training today at Melwood.

Sources close to theimps.tk can reveal that Liverpool have almost agreed a deal to take Jack Hobbs to Anfield. The youngest has apparantly impressed in the last week that he has spent at the European Champions and the 18 time English champions are all set to seal the deal.

Hobbs joined Liverpool on trial last week after months of speculation had been linking him with a move to Highbury. However, the Gunnars couldn't agree to a sell on clause that the Imps had specified in the deal, a clause that Liverpool were only too happy to agree to.

16 year old Hobbs signed with City at age 9 and made his professional debut when he came off the bench with a few minutes to go in the home game with Bristol Rovers in January. Since then, he's been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool, Bolton, Man Utd, Villa and Chelsea but the Reds have turned out to win the race for his signature.

Liverpool - Serbian superstar tracked
11 Nov 2005 11:58

Liverpool are believed to have enquired about the availability of Serbia and Montenegro international Ognjen Koroman.

The 27-year-old midfielder has impressed at international level, playing a key part in his country's qualification for the World Cup Finals as they finished top of their group ahead of Spain.

Koroman plays in the Russian league with Terek, and claims he has good financial offers from England and Russia.

Liverpool and Portsmouth are believed to be the clubs interested in securing Koroman's services.

i know, this is rubbish:

Liverpool have been linked with Chelsea ace Arjen Robben.

Reports originating from the player's homeland claim that the Dutch winger is attracting interest from a number of British clubs following rumours of a bust-up with his manager Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea signed the 21-year-old from PSV in July 2004 in a deal worth up to £12million and he's been one of their most exciting players to date. But with rumours of more friction in the Stamford Bridge dressing room, Robben along with one or two other players could be made available at some point next season.

Manchester United and Tottenham have also been linked with the player. Sir Alex has remained silent on the speculation but Spurs boss Martin Jol publicly admitted at the weekend that he'll make an offer if the player becomes available in January which suggests to us that the player's agent could be making noises to other clubs and that the reports aren't just idle speculation.

We'd love to see him brought in at Anfield but Rafa has already identified options for the wing and sadly, because of a lack of funds, Liverpool can't go out and buy a handful of quality players at the same time which is a real shame because some of the players linked with us recently would really make a difference.

Just like the £16million we should have spent on Owen. It may have been inflated but had we not spent £7million on Crouch, an extra £9million to guarantee Champions League qualification would have been a cheap price to pay. It wouldn't have been madness re-signing St Mike for £16million, what was madness was letting the sh*t run his contract down so low in the first place and then allowing him to leave for £8million. That was madness.

Cruzeiro defender Edu Dracena has revealed that Liverpool made a bid to sign him in October. The Brazilian centreback, who is also a target for Villarreal, has produced some some superb performances in his national league. The 24 year old was linked to Real Madrid, in the summer, and a reunion with his old boss Wanderly Luxemburgo.
Although Cruzeiro would like to extend his contract Dracena is pleased by the interest:

"The only proposal that I knew about was one that came in October from Liverpool but it was refused by Cruzeiro,'' conceded Dracena.
"Nobody from Villarreal has done a proposal to me because they know that first of all they have to talk to Cruzeiro. I am working very hard and trying to do my best at Cruzeiro, as having a proposal from abroad hasn't happened yet.
"I am happy because several teams are showing interest in me but I must say that at the moment Cruzeiro is the team that has the priority for renewing my contract.''

Rafa certainly has his scouts out in force at all corners of the globe. We are being linked with players from many different regions at present. It's only a matter of time before we sign a relatively unknown player who turns out to be a top quality signing.

RIISE

Liverpool - Italian giants eye Riise
29 Dec 2005 11:22

Reports in Italy claim that Inter Milan are tracking Liverpool's John Arne Riise.

The versatile Norwegian international has been an almost permanent fixture on the left since his arrival from Monaco in 2001.

His current deal at Anfield is set to expire in the summer of 2007 and the Italian press suggest that, should contract negotiations fail to start in the next few months, then Inter could be ready to make a move over the course of the summer.

Hi this is Alvaro from Spain

I just want to say hello and say that here in Spain there is a rumour about Xabi Prieto signing up Liverpool in June. Xabi Prieto is a Real Sociedad player as Xabi Alonso was before. He plays at the right wing. He is the most promising player at Real Sociedad right now. I'm sure he wouldn't let you down. Besides Real Sociedad are in trouble because they have debts he can't afford. He would be willing to sell Xabi Prieto if the offer is good enough. Seeing that Liverpool has problems in the right wing I think he could solve the problem. He is as good player as Joaquin at least. He is only 22.

TRAORE maybe out

Thursday's newspapers are claiming Liverpool full-back Djimi Traore is on the verge of leaving Anfield.

The 25-year-old was signed by Gerard Houllier in February 1999 and was a member of the Liverpool side that won last year's Champions League final.

However he has struggled to hold down a regular first-team spot and the Daily Mirror reports he is a target for Fulham boss Chris Coleman.

The Daily Record claims he is one of three Liverpool players Vladimir Romanov is keen to take to Hearts.

Romanov is said to be in talks with Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry in the hope of signing Neil Mellor, Anthony Le Tallec and Traore who is valued at around ? million by the Anfield club.

BRAZILIAN

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is looking to his former club Valencia for new faces with Brazilian defender Fabio Aurelio his target.

The South American's current contract at The Mestalla expires at the end of June and he is now able to discuss a move away from the club.

Valencia chiefs will hold last-ditch talks with Aurelio next week aimed at tying him to a new deal, but they have so far refused to meet his wage demands.

Reds boss Benitez is keen to build on his squad during the transfer window, and the 26-year-old could be the next on his list.

The Brazilian, who operates at left back or in midfield, is also being looked at by Real Madrid and Barcelona but he has fond memories of Benitez from his days in charge at Valencia.

Benitez has already bolstered his defence by signing Jan Kromkamp, and Danish centre half Daniel Agger is also expected to arrive at Anfield.

Benitez still wants more options down the left, especially with Chilean winger Mark Gonzalez's work permit problems, and Aurelio would prove tough competition for John Arne Riise and Harry Kewell.

Any move for Aurelio could prove to be the end for Djimi Traore, however, with the Frenchman probably being surplus to requirements with Stephen Warnock also able to play at left back
