I do have my doubts about kuyt tbh, especially if we pay more than 10 million for him

The compilation of him is impressive, but as it has been said before, compilations can make any player look great... (Although i challenge the person who said a compilation on Titus Bramble can look good to make one and see! :D  )

I'll be keeping a closer eye on this lad in the world cup. does anyone know whether he actually starts for Holland? ???

I saw him play against mexico and he really impressed me, he dropped back to help the deam when defending as well as making some good passes and crosses, he is definetly not a one dimensional striker, a real team player

And if the Department for Work and Pensions allows him to play over here, despite never playing for his Country, then I will personally fart in each of their faces.   :D

isn't he from the Ivory Coast

aren't ivory coast in 20's rank? it would explain why he got the work permit really easily. Although he hasn't played yet for his country, i think the work permit was handed on the basis of the Ivory Coast rank in the Fifa charts.

Well one of the stipulations they cite is that the player should have appeared in 75% of his country's games.

He hasn't, so they can't offer him a permit.

But I bet the f*ckers do.  :no

hmm.. then it is interesting as St.Mich said.

We will see what happened, but i will be really furious if he doesnt get a work permit

It's true, he is working hard, but at the WC I think Marco Van Basten gives Robin Van Persie a place on the base-team. He plays a good match against Mexico but I think Robin van Persie is better than him.

 That was me who said a compilation video could make Bramble - World Class. It could you know, just add that scissors kick and blatant take out of Arjen Robben and you have yourself one 'ell of a compo.

Ged watched Diouf at World Cup and thought he was great and he looked good, we then signed him for ten million pounds and he flopped.

I remember Houllier was after Diouf before World Cup started (was in the papers anyway.) All the world cup did was inflate Diouf's price. I watched Diouf at world cup and I thought he would be great I should have remembered Phil Babb :(

the problem for Kuyt is that holland play the 3 upfront and Rudd plays through the middle so Kuyt will never get ahead of him.  Holland sometimes play him on the right side but like you said van persie will probably play.  van persie is quicker and better suited for that position.

I am getting a bit frustrated again. We were supposed to have our targets sorted out and tied up before the world cup. Now we are going to have another summer like last year!!

Unless, of course, Rafa has been doing his dealings on the quiet and does actually have the likes of Kuyt, Alves, Aurelio etc tied up. We live in hope!!

Since Rafa has been with us alot of the signings he's made have been done quietly. This i think is the best way to go when dealing in the transfer market.

Especially when Chelsea seem to show interest in transfers so the price goes up to something only they can afford

sums it up in a nutshell.

you can't really judge kuyt by watching him play for holland because he plays in a completely different role than he does for his club. van basten teads to play a 4-3-3 with van horseface upfront, kuyt wide right and venegoor of hesselink wide left. i suppose it's a bonus that kuyt is fairly versatile but there's no doubting that he's best up top with a partner.

Roeder ready to strike out in market

Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd has given Glenn Roeder the green light to strengthen his attack - and he has a number of targets in sight.

Following talks with chairman Freddy Shepherd, Roeder has decided the main focus has to be in the final third of the pitch.

With skipper Alan Shearer now retired and youngster Michael Chopra looking certain to leave after being linked with Cardiff, Barnsley and Crystal Palace, Roeder could find himself down to two strikers - Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi.

Albert Luque's failure to establish himself since his £9.5million move from Deportivo la Coruna has left his future in doubt.

Shepherd said: "After discussing things with the manager, we know what we want and need - and we are on the look-out for attacking players for next season."

Shepherd is not about to reveal his targets, although the Magpies have been watching developments with Manchester United's Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Roeder will watch Feyenoord's Dirk Kuyt during Holland's World Cup finals campaign.

However, there is little prospect of Craig Bellamy returning to Tyneside despite a clause in his contract which will allow him to leave Blackburn for £6million.

The Welshman was shown the door by then manager Graeme Souness last summer and has prospered at Ewood Park.

Newcastle are also keeping an eye on Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips as they look to add further support from midfield.

The situations surrounding James Milner and Nicky Butt, who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa and Birmingham respectively, need to be resolved, while the positions of Luque and £8million signing Jean-Alain Boumsong remain uncertain.

Neither played a significant part in the final stages of last season's successful drive for Europe.

The huge transfer fees the club paid mean they would need healthy returns on their investment, and the lucrative contracts both are on could put off purchasers.

Roeder was expected to recruit a central defender - a pay-as-you-play deal for former star Jonathan Woodgate remains a possibility, although nothing is in place - although he now appears to be concentrating on other areas.
