IMHO Barry would give us more in attack not lease and forgoing a good assist rate, he scores goals with both feet and head, and when attack brakes down he can then amazingly get back into possition, if Xabi could be a more dynamic a bit more up and down i wouldnt have a problem but it too easy for the oppo to read his game and thats why he struggled, why do you think he want a move to a ( much ) slower league? he'll be something else for them no doubt, note ive always said closer to the prem, we could well miss Alonso's passing in the CL.

We're not getting anything from Villa. We might as well start looking for a new winger

Haha. It's not that we're making somewhat reasonable offers, or that we will eventually be. O'Neill is throwing a fit over the whole thing as if his club has a high status.

If you were a villa fan you would see it differently mate, you cant take it personally he doing his job, if Torres wanted to leave would you accept a reasonable offer of 25-30mill ( what he's worth )? No because to us he's worth a lot more, its the same with Barry, he's their heart and i dont blame MON one bit for asking for 20, he's not going to ask for less just because our budget is tight, if its too much we should move on not blame O'neal for doing what every villa fan would want him to, his job.

yep he wants his club to improve same as us and wants to be a buyer not a seller.

To many managers just back down he is at least fighting for his players you gotta respect that.

Mind you barry if kept there can always buy out his contract and imo this is what will get him to liverpool sooner rather then later.

More its gets closer to start of season more presure will be on o'niel and he start to worrie about the return of barry and time to get in new players.

This will be the telling point around end of july time i think if not a little sooner.

Haha. A friend of mine from Birmingham is a big Villa supporter and he says to me:

I'm actually quite happy he might leave
If he stays, I'll be happy.but getting £20 million for him? Cash in while he's had a good season! Liverpool will soon realize what a waste of money, though

Guess you were right

My biggest worry when a manager becomes obsessive over a player is they focus too much on that and neglect the areas that need attention. Or summed up my concerns are :-

1) Barny is a good player, but not worth pursuing.
2) We could cope this season without signing a CM so why spend so much on one
3) Other positions require attention, only full back seems to have got a look in - and rumours about Milner
4) I want to see quality signings, my worry is whether players like Dossena, Degen, Barny and Milner are going to make the difference. For me that list could equally read Aurelio, Pennant, Lucas and Arbeloa in terms of inspiration. If we'd signed those four last season would people be expecting a title challenge or wondering which, if any, would work out. OK Barny may prove more like Gerrard or Mascherano than Lucas, but let's face it it isn't exactly an inspiring signing if it does go through. Adding about £5m-£10m over what he's worth to the fee won't make it seem like good business. Maybe if we signed Barny for £7m then that in itself might inspire

Mainly because he can be seen as a left midfielder as well. A position we're in need of

I have not posted in a long while, but for me we should end our interest in the Barry transfer saga while Villa are asking for silly money.

CAN PLAY isn't really a solution, we need proper players not bits n pieces players. That's like having a batsman who averages 30 in a cricket team because he CAN bowl or a bowler in the side who averages 36 with the ball because he CAN bat.

Point being we need specialists, wingers who do the best job not someone who can play left without much pace and out of his intended role. Perhaps that is why O'Squeall is asking so much, he thinks he is a top winger

If you were to sell your soul, I think you'd put it up for a good price. Same thing O'Neill is doing  :D

As for Cricket, I don't understand the sport at all.
