Crouch proved to be worth roughly what we paid for him, but at £7m it wasn't like we were paying over the odds for a striker considering they can cost up to £30m.

so far, from all the press and doug ellis comment. we will have to pay 15mill for barry, so we need to get 15 mill for alonso so no money really spent? if we can manage this then i think its good business personally.

According to Manhattan's sources, Martin O'Neill says he will settle for nothing less than 40M.

I could be wrong of course....

I'm pretty sure the rumours came first as O'neil was absolutely furious because news of the bid was leaked the press (by LFC he claimed). whether that was true or not the right thing to do (in my opinion) would have been to keep quiet and ensure any future negotiations were kept under wraps. Instead Rafa chose to speak about Barry on a few different occasions (followed by Gerrard) and bizarrely both of them finished their comments by saying 'we need to respect Aston Villa/MON' but all they did was pi..s.s him off. It's no wonder they are asking a fortune.

I just find it strange that so many posters on here are shouting the odds at MON and yet we are playing exactly the same game with Juventus for the Alonso transfer.

Im sorry scott, but MON is acting like a c*ck! First of all it was the press who publically announce this bid from the first place, not rafa or anyone else. How did the press know about it? they can have their ways, could be that they got it from a source from Aston Villa or a source from Liverpool. However, MON [b]declared[/d] that it was true that LFC did bid for barry and was outraged with how they bid for him, in public. His outrage at LFC was an overreaction, because I don't think Rafa would want to make it publically known that we bid for barry! Did Rafa say in any of his interviews that he wants barry? no he just kept quite saying he is a good player and plays in 3 different positions when asked about the future of alonso, but he didnt say he wanted him at anfield.

The only thing is Gerrard, I dont think he should have talked too much thats all.

sorry but im with scottbott, no different than what we are doing with juve or to an extent what we are doing to stop the cheatski torres interest.
weve gone about this all wrong, should have been kept behind closed doors but more and more lately we're becoming a laughing stock with the way we are trying to do business
