“Torres is a wonderful player and he has had an excellent first season at Liverpool. I only wish I'd had the money to buy someone like him when I was in charge there,” he said, hopefully with tongue pressed firmly in his cheek.

I'm pretty sure the rumours came first as O'neil was absolutely furious because news of the bid was leaked the press (by LFC he claimed). whether that was true or not the right thing to do (in my opinion) would have been to keep quiet and ensure any future negotiations were kept under wraps. Instead Rafa chose to speak about Barry on a few different occasions (followed by Gerrard) and bizarrely both of them finished their comments by saying 'we need to respect Aston Villa/MON' but all they did was pi..s.s him off. It's no wonder they are asking a fortune.
I just find it strange that so many posters on here are shouting the odds at MON and yet we are playing exactly the same game with Juventus for the Alonso transfer.
