Is this some kind of sick joke?
i think they mean that villa are looking at them as replacements for barry. i can comfortably predict that our midfield next season won't consist of downing, sidwell, huddlestone and milner.

I've never agreed that players are worth more just because they have an English birth certificate/passport and picked up the odd international cap.
We've seen players like Hargreaves and D.Bent sold for £18 and £10 million (respectively) just because they have worn an England shirt in recent years when in reality neither of them could hold a torch to foreign players that have come to the Premier league for a fraction of the price.

Add this to the fact the transfer has been handled terribly by the club (particulalry Rafa and Gerrard with their very public remarks) from start to finish then it's no surprise they are playing hard ball. The club are getting what they deserve on this in my opinion. They have been very arrogant in the way they have approached the whole thing.

I could be wrong of course....

I'm pretty sure the rumours came first as O'neil was absolutely furious because news of the bid was leaked the press (by LFC he claimed). whether that was true or not the right thing to do (in my opinion) would have been to keep quiet and ensure any future negotiations were kept under wraps. Instead Rafa chose to speak about Barry on a few different occasions (followed by Gerrard) and bizarrely both of them finished their comments by saying 'we need to respect Aston Villa/MON' but all they did was pi..s.s him off. It's no wonder they are asking a fortune.
I just find it strange that so many posters on here are shouting the odds at MON and yet we are playing exactly the same game with Juventus for the Alonso transfer.

i think G Barry is a better player, and reckon he'd fit in quite well.
a good buy, but at 15 million, a bit high. but arent all english players going for alot compared to bargain basement euro buys. (solskjaer springs to mind as a bargain years back)
