if Villa don't want to sell then fine....look else where.  Or even better....keep Alonso!

Barry won't be very happy if we publicly announce that we are looking elsewhere.....and i think that's what we should do.

I work in Sales and this should be a classic 'takeaway' situation! Despite MAN's protests they are now clearly just posturing for the best price.  We have come back to them three times unsuccessfully and I think now is the time to appear to walk away - with all the public desire to play for Liverpool from the Barry camp i think his position there is pretty much untenable and behind the scenes they will come back to us!  I do it all the time!!!

To me it shows rafa is thinking more about the prem and Barry will defiantly improve us in that comp. Depending on who else comes in i think we'll see him a lot on the left wing with an attack minded fullback ( Dossena, Insua ) behind.

V the mighty USA and Trinidad and Tobago.  World class gets mentioned far to much these days.  Barry isnt world class.  He has never played at CL level and never even really played at the top end of international level.  He played against croatia and was chasing shadows all night.  Modric is better value for money than Barry.

Barry looks good for England, Lampard does FA but score which is a lot more valuable even if he does FA else.

To be honest Barry is a great player and its lloking like we wiull be paying closer to 20 mill for him which is unsurprising considering the English market. I want him to come whatever price, he will be a superb player for us, hes a leader, hes got a drive much like Gerrard and has skill.

Why do we want another midfielder's my question. Have we not long since established the left and right side of midfield and the strikers are not up to scratch?

Well, we made it seem like were desperate for Barry.  So, Villa has us by the balls right now.

I'd hope Rafa would take the hint and drop his interest in Barry and realise that CM is the one area we aren't in need of new signings. The resources he's seemingly willing to invest in that area can be better used on the wings or upfront on a partner for Torres. But we all know how stubborn Rafa is and he'll now be on a crusade to sign Barry and won't let it drop until he exhausted every avenue.
Rafa really seems to get a hard on over CM's judging by the number of them he's signed since he took over. I know we've the prospect of loosing Mascha and Lucas for the opening weeks of the season but I don't see that as a valid point for investing so much in Barry whilst still offloading Alonso.

Sorry to say Rafa doesn't have my backing on this one! (Not that he'll be bothered like  :D ).

I do not think Villa are being unfair by rejecting a bid of £13m.

If you look at two of Barry's compatriots in the England team Hargraves and Carrick who are both the same age and each cost in the region of £20m when transferred to Man Utd.

Considering Barry is currently keeping both these players out of the England team Villa can rightly expect a fee in the region of £18m so its eaither pay the going rate of let is go and look elsewhere.

Liverpool are simply hoping that Villa will sell cheap rather than hang on to a player that wants to move on but we will see.

Clubs with money would just pay the going rate I wouldnt be surprised if other clubs are keeping tabs on the situation and if Liverpool continue to dither a counter bid could put the price higher still.

Do we really need him?
Is he worth 18/20ml?
No on both counts!

Just keep Alonso and spend the dosh on a class LW
Push Babel into the forward line.
Anyone else think that Carra might end up at RB if Agger makes a full recovery?

I would say that 15 million is ABSOLUTE tops. I wouldn't be spending anymore than him especially when our midfield is already well formed.

he is also 28 this year if we are going to sign another midfielder for that amount of money then we should atleast bring someone younger in.

Van Der Vaart, Johnson.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

van der vaart hasnt been any good in years IMO, Barry is a proven class act in the premiership and at 28 is hitting his peak, well worth 15mill if you ask me
