How the hell was he so cheap?

Was he on the last year of his contract or something??

No actually he wasn't, but if they didn't sell him now, he could leave for around £1M next summer with some special clause. He had 2 years left on his contract.

It doesn't add up though, you would of thought they could have started a bidding war for him, maybe he already had some kind of agreement in place with Real Madrid.

Contracts seem a waste of time these days if you have to sell them 2 years before the end and they only want to sign a 4 year contract anyway.

7.1 mill for van da vart is daylight robbery. how come real keep doing that to other teams, us with owen and macca, etc etc

baryy at 18 mill seem even worse when you see that price tag, but it is like our fuel prices compared too the rest of Europe, if you wanna keep up you you just have to pay top dollar

Well it looks like we have him finally. All things considered between him and Keane we should be a stronger side next season. I hope.

Yeah Bav lloks good to me, I think he will bring a good head and ability to the team where we need it most down the flanks. Left sided centre mid, should be interesting to see how it all fits to gether.

Also Pennant leaving for 5 million means that we might be able to finance another player?

I see not much has changed in the past couple of years around here..
Anyways regarding the Barry deal, cant really understand why we'r going after him especially now that we have got Keane.. imo, if Rafa brought Keane to be played as a winger on either side then that would be 20mill that could have been spent on better options. Keane -like Barry- only deserves (arguable) the reported trasfer fee if he is to be played in his best position. If we get Barry, the way i see it we hae one of two options... either play barry as a left midfielder or play gerrard as a right midfielder.
Still cant understand why Rafa had to go for the ragets we seem to be after now; just when i thought we had a good formation that might take us somewhere, the targets we have been linked to this summer seem to suggest that we are either about to change it or that we have just fcked up in the transfer market like we always do !

I agree with you mate. Not annoyed that we're after Barry although I do think he's overpriced, but Van de Vaart for £7-8 million has gotta be one of the best deals of the summer, shocked that Rafa didn't have him on our radar.

Well what i seen of him , when there is no pressure he is fantastic player but if he gets man marked or team goes behind by 1-2 his head goes down and he bottles it 9/10.

This is only 10-11 games i seen him in but i got a dutch friend and he says he is a nearly a great footballer.

Cant say he gonna enjoy it much in real if he dont rise to challenge when pressure is on.

But then agian i havent seen him at all last year and mabye he has lost that part of his game if so we might have made a mistake with him.
