Any swap deal involving any of the likes of Pennant, Kewell, Voronin, Finnan, Riise (who I dont want to see go but Rafa clearly does) and possibly Benayoun would suit me. Then Rafa can spend his pennies on full backs and a wide/attacking player.

TBH , i for one would be happy if we sign barry , cos he's versatile got a good left leg and he's can put in a good cross ands that what he has been doing all season . Alonso is below par and if he does go and barry does come , we would have lost much

5 million + player for barry seems like a fair deal

Well by that logic, Newcastle should be above us because Owen plays for England...

Grow up lad, eh?

This is not Alonso VS Barry.

This is LFC chasing Barry.

Barry is a good player. Well capable of replacing any left sided fullback or midfielder in LFC at the moment. Miles ahead of Riise.

Alonso is a top class midfielder. What is the point in selling one of your very best players if you wan't to win the premiership?

All holding midfielders in both Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea are inferior to Alonso.

Barry would in my opinion be a good signing. A left footed player proven in the premiership. A good professional with good mentality and good attributes.

It's definitely true.

His contract was going to expire soon anyway.

I'm sure the conversation between him and Barry went like this:

Barry: Hey Patrik!

Berger: Hi Gareth

Barry: You know about Liverpool's offer?

Berger: Yeah, I read about that.

Barry: You were with them for years.

Berger: Best years of my professional life.

Barry: Really? So you think it's worth going?

Berger: Honestly yes.

Barry: OK, thanks for the advice.

O'Neill: Eeeeee whatcha eejits talking about!!!!! Eeeel tell ya Paddy Bergaaa!!!! You can't tell me playazzz to leave me team!!!!! Gareth is a major part of me plans for the future.....along with signing Henrik Larrson again!!!!!

Me neither, maybe that was his plan.  What a way to earn easy money.

Aston Villa Boss O’Neill Expels Berger Despite Apologising For Suggesting To Barry To Join Liverpool  Tue, 2008-05-06 15:51.

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has ruled Patrik Berger out of contention for Sunday's season finale at West Ham, for his remarks in the media suggesting skipper Gareth Barry to join Liverpool.

Thus, the former Czech international midfielder, who played for the Reds between 1996 and 2003, has apparently come to the end of his spell at the Villa Park as his contract expires in the summer.

O’Neill told avfc.co.uk: "I was really disappointed and surprised that Patrik, with all his experience of dealing with the press, would make such an inappropriate comment.

"The sad aspect of it is that we are paying Patrik's wages for him to recommend one of our players to another football club. It's ludicrous.

"I think Pat realises that now and he's apologised. He said he didn't mean a great deal of harm but the harm's been done and he won't be playing any part in proceedings from here on in."

Pat? Since when has Berger been Irish?

We should antagonise Villa even further by making an offer for Martin O'Neill himself to join Liverpool as Rafa's second-in-command.

He does anyway, he's been injury prone for years and nothing's changed. He's played 32 games for villa since signing in 2005 and 7 for Stoke on loan, about 13 games a season average. Worth the £3.25m we paid for him back when, however he's not incurred a fee since and no surprise. I bet some of his clubs wish he came without wages too!

And I wish Berger had kept his gobshut, we don't need Barny so it pains me to read, hear and see that we're chasing a player we don't need and pay stupid money for him to boot.

I think the lad Barry is a class player and would improve us in 2 maybe 3 possitions, I wanted us to sign him years ago as a replacement for Bjornabye as he plays the wingback role very well, make that 4 then :D
Getting a bit of dead wood of the wage bill and bringing this lad in for a few mill would be a great bit of bussiness imo as not only is he a first 11 player but he also gives quality cover elsewhere and when moneys to tight to mention that aint a bad thing, leave 80 - 90% of the budget for more offensive players.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,
Of stupid fools who stand in line......  Like..

why saint? it just shows how good both sides are of not relying on one player to create the majority of chances doesn't it? Look on the bright side of things remember.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.
