whatever happens in the market im sure rafa wants the best for teh club, and he knows more than us all so if he says barry will help us, then lets fecking get him! and we cant use the 20million as a weight on keanes shoulders, let the guy do his job on the field

Absolutely right. For the time being we havent signed barry but we have signed keane. Like ive mentioned before I do like the player and think he can offer a lot to the team. First half last night he did very well. I also think, like someone mentioned earlier, he will finish his career with us, I hope so, it means he has been a success !

Or ...... just to offer the half empty glass side of the arguement, he is so bad we just can't sell him  :D

Im trying my best here but there is always bloody one !  :D

 I think if we get Barry we will again have paid well over the odds , but they will both be regular first teamers without a doubt, and I would rather pay over the odds for players that improve the team, rather than bring in another load of "bargain buys" that are no better than what we already have and need moving on in next to no time.

I can see that both Keane and Barry will improve us, and if we get the bit of luck all teams need we just might get close.

All the sites I'm seeing are showing Barry staying, is that final?

Little pre-ronaldo should of just filled out a transfer request.

Says in the Telegraph that Barry will probably now make a written transfer request if Villa stand by their deadline.

It just gets more and more confusing

According to the Official Website, Barry is staying, because the deadline has already passed, and Benítez has admitted that selling is the only way of making up for the money demand.

Villa then put out a statement on their website confirming that Barry would be staying. It read: 'This evening, Aston Villa can announce that Gareth Barry will be staying with the club following the interest from Liverpool over recent months.

'During discussions in the past few days, a final deadline to conclude this episode was set that all parties were aware of and agreed to. This deadline has now passed and so Gareth will remain with Villa.'

However, it soon transpired that the two clubs were still talking over the move

A bit of sensationalism on the part of the daily mail. According to the "Echo" the deal has not been completed just yet. Unlike the [url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1039828/Liverpool-Villa-finally-agree-19m-deal-Gareth-Barry-England-star-secures-Anfield-swap-Finn

an.html]Daily Mail[/url] Claims.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd rather believe in the Echo as a more reliable source over any other.

However.

If this is true, (according to the site, the deal is already gone through); I tremble at the thought of where the owners got the money for this transfer and how much bigger "that debt" has gotten.

It says the rest will be made up though sales.

VILLA WAR OVER BARRY

GARETH Barry will today demand that Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill backs down and resurrects his £18m move to Liverpool.

The England midfielder is furious that O’Neill pulled the plug on the deal after claiming the Reds missed a 5pm deadline yesterday.

Villa’s patience finally snapped after the Anfield outfit had found £20.3m to sign Robbie Keane from Tottenham earlier in the week, having refused to meet Villa’s asking price.

Although yesterday’s deadline was agreed by both sides and had been in place for days, news of Keane’s speedy switch and then yesterday’s further delay caused O’Neill to blow his top.

O’Neill was already upset at the way Liverpool had publicly courted and unsettled his star midfielder throughout the summer.

Reds chief executive Rick Parry spoke to Villa officials yesterday morning.

Villa were told that written confirmation would soon follow, even though Villa are believed to have altered the terms of payment in a letter delivered on Tuesday.

                       ----------------------------

Either way you will have a very unhappy player to deal with. I think the deal will still go through, but it may need Barry to make a transfer request first.

I never said the deal had been completed mate .... just that its not over till the fat lady sings ...... and I think O'Neill will be singing a different tune tomorrow  :D

Well what players is Benítez offering for this to be viable? If we end up giving away Alonso, Benayoun and Finnan (and others?) I don't know how this will be justifiable. Especially when Benayoun has proven himself to be a good back-up, and is ready and willing to sit on the bench if he has to.

As far as I am aware, Hicks and Gillett (also known as the two tw@ts) have now guaranteed the money is available, so it will then be up to Rafa as to which players are surplus to requirements..... if any!

I would imagine if Alonso does stay, Benayoun, Pennant and maybe Arbeloa should bring in enough to cover Barry's fee with Finnan as part of the deal.

I would be happy enough with that.

If we do have the money - why didn't we manage to sort it by the 5pm deadline?

It's just drawn out the saga even longer.
